Angela Bassett joins Black Panther

It’s almost as if the cast of Marvel’s Black Panther is too good to be true. Then there’s a report that says not only is it true, it’s getting better as we speak. The film, which already stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, and Florence Kasumba, will now add Angela Bassett (American Horror Story) to the cast. More on the story below.

The Fantastic Four movie 2015 Michael B. Jordan joins Black Panther

Just one day after it was revealed that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) was in talks for a major (yet unspecified) supporting role in Black Panther, we have word that the hotly-anticipated Marvel Studios production is preparing to add another high-profile performer to the cast.

According to Borys Kit at the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Panther director Ryan Coogler will be reuniting with his Fruitvale Station/Creed star Michael B. Jordan for the Marvel superhero adventure that has been in development for several years now and was announced as part of the studio’s Phase Three release slate back in October 2014.

Hasbro Cinematic Universe

Last December, Paramount Pictures announced the development of a shared cinematic universe based on their Hasbro properties – including G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), Micronauts, Visionairies, and ROM – similar to the one they are currently working on for their extremely lucrative Transformers franchise. The next logical step was to assemble a team of creative samurai to help them foster Hollywood’s latest attempt to one-up Marvel to the silver screen.

The studio just announced that they have put together a jaw-dropping writers’ room that includes Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon (The Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Wonder Boys) and Eisner Award-winning comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Saga).

Ryan Coogler

Marvel Studios’ long-gestating Phase Three feature Black Panther, which recently signed Joe Robert Cole for scripting duties and saw its release date moved up from July 2018 to February of that year, so far has had a mighty difficult time locking down the perfect director.

Ava DuVernay (Selma) was first offered the gig over the summer, but she took a pass, as did F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), who signed on to direct Furious 8 for Universal instead. Marvel seems determined to secure the services of a first-rate filmmaker, and according to a new rumor it appears that they may have found a new front-runner in Ryan Coogler.

Black Panther

Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off with Captain America: Civil War. The film will end the Captain America trilogy, but it will also introduce the Spider-Man and Black Panther characters to the MCU. Chadwick Boseman will play the Prince of Wakanda, who seems to have his own agenda in Black Panther. We don’t know how exactly his presence will affect the MCU has a whole, but at least we know who will be writing his solo feature.

A new report says that Marvel has hired Joe Robert Cole (FX’s American Crime Story) to pen the script. There are also other reports saying that the studio is eyeing F. Gary Gray to direct the film. More on the story below.

The Inhumans Header Image

When Guardians of the Galaxy was announced at Comic-Con a few years back, many had considered the film to be a huge gamble. But the marketing team has done an excellent job getting Marvel fans excited over a property that was relatively unknown. Even before the film was released, Marvel had the balls to announce that there would be a sequel. But everything paid off in the end, with Guardians of the Galaxy being one of the biggest hits of August, in fact it broke box office records.

Now Marvel is ready to roll the dice once more with an even more unfamiliar property called The Inhumans. There have been plenty of teases that have led up to this. But this is the first time we are hearing of reports that a script has been turned in. Hit the jump to learn more.
