Tron: Legacy

In the past few weeks there have been talks of Tron 3 shooting in Vancouver this fall. The tentatively titled Tron: Ascension will bring back Joseph Kosinski as director. While reports suggested that Garrett Hedlund would be returning to reprise his role as Sam Flynn, it was unclear if Olivia Wilde would be returning. At the end of Tron: Legacy, it was revealed that her character, Quorra, had made it out of The Grid, and transferred herself into the real world.

Now a new report says that she is signed on to appear, and also confirms that Hedlund is on board for the sequel as well. While some may have doubted the sequel even happening, it appears that Tron 3 is on, though we have yet to hear of a confirmation from the Disney themselves. Hit the jump for more.

Tron

Three weeks ago, our own eelyajekiM reported that Walt Disney Pictures had finally decided to pull the trigger on a second sequel to their 1982 cult sci-fi adventure Tron and was reportedly planning to film in Vancouver this Fall. Up until now, it’s been going by the rather generic handle Tron 3, but if a recent tweet from Production Weekly regarding the timeline of the planned shoot is to be taken as gospel, then the sequel could possibly be titled Tron: Ascension.

Tron Legacy

Tron is just that one film franchise that somehow finds a way to make use of its extra lives. Fans were excited to hear that a sequel, Tron: Legacy, would be coming, but it was met with mixed reviews and it barely met box office expectations. With the way the film ended there was hope that a Tron 3 would soon follow.

Since it’s 2010 release, talks of a sequel grew quieter with each passing year. Now a new report says not only is Tron 3 still alive, but it will shoot in Vancouver this fall. Hit the jump for more.

Joseph Kosinski In Talks To Direct The Twilight Zone

After making his directorial debut with Tron: Legacy, and following that up with this year’s Oblivion, Joseph Kosinski has become the face of filmmakers who have great attention to detail when it comes to the visual aspect of a film. Believe me, when you watch those films, you won’t believe the kind of worlds that he is able to create.

The director is currently attached to direct the third installment of the Tron franchise that is tentatively Tr3n, as well as a remake of the Disney cult classic, The Black Hole. But those films might end up on the back burner as he is in talks to direct The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros.

2077: Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is one of the last remaining drone repairmen stationed on Earth, which was nearly destroyed by an alien invasion 60 years earlier.

As part of a massive operation to extract the planet’s remaining vital resources, Jack lives in a Skytower floating thousands of meters above post-apocalyptic New York.

He is joined by Victoria “Vika” Olsen (Andrea Riseborough), a by-the-books navigator with whom he shares a romantic interest. In his Bubbleship – a futuristic hybrid of a jet fighter and a Bell 47 helicopter – Jack works with Vika to repair downed drones and dispatch “Scavs” – the aliens who turned Earth into a wasteland.

Their mission is almost complete. In two weeks Jack and Vika will leave Earth behind forever as they travel to Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. There they will join a lunar colony established by Earth’s survivors. The fateful arrival of a stranger (Olga Kurylenko), however, triggers a series of events that forces Jack to question everything he knows about the war and its aftermath.

Director Joseph Kosinski has never been one to employ traditional soundtracks on his films. His 2010 debut Tron: Legacy was scored by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk and their efforts were received so well that even those who disliked the movie couldn’t help but love the soundtrack, which sold over half a million copies after almost a year in release.

For the soundtrack to his latest film, the futuristic sci-adventure Oblivion starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, Kosinski has retained the services of another French electronica outfit gaining in popularity across the globe, the quintet M83. Their original score for Oblivion is now available for sale on MP3 for only $5.

Listen to two selections from the album – “StarWaves” and the title track “Oblivion” featuring Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfør – here below.

‘Prometheus’ Scribe Jon Spaihts To Rewrite ‘Black Hole’

The Black Hole

That small Black Hole tease that was seen in Tron Legacy was much more than just a tease, it was an announcement that Disney was going to remake the 1979 classic. Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski would take the remake of The Black Hole using a script written by Travis Beachman. At Oblivion‘s most recent press conference, Kosinski told interviewers that the remake was on. Hours later, THR confirmed that Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts has been hired to rewrite the draft written by Beacham.

The report doesn’t mention much about the story itself other than that it is going to be rewritten, but we can get a sense of what we might see in it given that Spaihts wrote the script for Prometheus, and who knows how the new film would have ended up if there were no rewrites to it.

Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion is no ordinary small sci-fi film. In fact it is so big that it could fit an IMAX screen. While Oblivion has been making its marketing campaign run over at SXSW and WonderCon, the film will be making a big debut over at the LA Times’ Hero Complex Film Festival. The film will be presented in its IMAX format and Kosinski and film star Tom Cruise will be there to attend a very exclusive Q&A after the event. Hit the jump for more info.

The interactive Q&A will be moderated by Times film writer Rebecca Keegan at New York City’s AMC Loews 34th Street 14 on Monday, April 15, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

‘Oblivion’ Trailer: Tom Cruise Learns The Truth About Earth’s War Torn Condition

OBLIVION

Despite what Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) may know about what happened to the Earth 60 years ago, nothing could have prepared him for the truth – not even a long-lost lover (Olga Kurylenko) who literally fell from the sky. The new trailer for Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion has arrived and it gives us a better picture of what Harper is fighting for and who he is up against. Morgan Freeman plays a freedom fighter who has all the answers that Harper is looking for. But who can Harper believe?

Check out the trailer here below to find out.

The trailer does create a splendid looking post-apocalyptic Earth, and the sci-fi machinery looks to be very polished and very real. This gives me a lot of hope that Kosinski’s second directorial effort will be much better than his first, especially since Kosinski, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt have adapted the screenplay from a comic that Kosinski created.
