Jurassic World title card

Production for Jurassic World 2 began a little over a month ago. The film, directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls), is set a few years after the events of the first film. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are both set to reprise their respective roles, but other than that, we don’t know much about the sequel.

However, rumor has it, the film will be scarier than the first, and judging by the first official photo that has been released, you wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the Dino exhibit of a museum. Check it out below.

Jurassic World 2 To Be Directed by J.A. Bayona

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World was a huge summer hit. Its success was thanks in part to director Colin Trevorrow, who had helped resurrect and reboot the iconic franchise. However, Trevorrow confirmed that he wouldn’t return to direct a sequel. But not because there was creative disagreements or anything like that, but that he and producer Steven Spielberg had agreed he would do one film. His confirmation to direct Star Wars: Episode IX pretty much put an end to any hope that he would direct a Jurassic World 2. So that left the studio in a position to look for a new director.

And it seems as though they have found one. A new report says The Orphanage helmer Juan Antonio Bayona is now set to direct Jurassic World 2. More on the story below.

A Monster Calls

A new trailer has been released for A Monster Calls, a fantasy drama from director J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) that’s an adaptation of the children’s novel of the same name written by Patrick Ness, who also penned the screenplay. It stars Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters), Lewis MacDougall (Pan), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Warcraft), and Liam Neeson (The Phantom Menace, Batman Begins) as a giant talking tree monster.

A Monster Calls tells the story of a boy who escapes to a fantasy world in order to help him deal with the illness his mother is suffering from and the bullies who torment him at school. The novel it’s adapted from was written based on an original idea by author Siobhan Dowd, who came up with it while suffering from terminal cancer but sadly passed away before she was able to write it.

You can read more about the movie and check out the trailer below.

Matt Reeves Won’t Direct ‘The Twilight Zone’; On The Shortlist For ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’

Matt Reeves

After taking a stab at writing and directing Let Me In, Matt Reeves attached himself to helm a new version of The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros. Unlike the last Twilight Zone film, which consisted of multiple vignettes directed by a variety of filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, George Miller, and John Landis, this iteration would only have one director. However, it’s been a year since the announcement was made and the film is no closer to starting principal photography. As a result, Reeves is exiting the project.

Variety reports that with Reeves out as director, WB has sent out a directing assignment to find the right person to direct. No word yet on who received the assignment. There were no reported creative conflicts between the two parties, however, Reeves’ schedule played a huge part in his decision to leave The Twilight Zone remake. Reeves is currently attached to projects like The Passage, This Dark Endeavor, and The Invisible Woman, which leads us to an interesting development for Dawn of Planet of the Apes.

The Orphanage

As is the case with most of the more popular foreign horror films that come around (The Ring, The Grudge, Quarantine, Let Me In), an American remake is never a big shock. One of these foreign horror films is the Guillermo del Toro produced The Orphanage [El Orfanato], which is now well on its way to our eyes with the hiring of Mark Pellington to direct the remake.

The original Orphanage is directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and stars Belén Rueda. It tells the story of a woman who goes back to the orphanage that she grew up in with plans of transforming it into a home for children with disabilities. Things go south when the woman’s sick adopted child informs her of his invisible friends, which includes the masked Tomás. She naturally doesn’t believe this at first, even with the the reminder of her own childhood that it brings up, but when she actually sees a boy wearing a mask and then her son disappears, she is forced to find out what exactly is going on at her orphanage.
