Judas Priest Screaming For Vengeance

This week, Judas Priest‘s Screaming For Vengeance is on sale in MP3 format for only $2.99. The CD is currently $8.92.

Released in 1982, Screaming For Vengeance is my favorite Priest album and is perfect from start to finish! Stand out tracks are “The Hellion/Electric Eye” (one of the greatest album openers ever!), “Riding On The Wind,” “Devil’s Child,” “Bloodstone,” and of course, the tune everyone knows – “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.”

Here’s where I tell you that this is one of the greatest metal albums of all time and since I’m the Empress Of Metal, you should take my word for it that you should grab this album for a mere three bucks.

Browse all 100 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99.

MP3 Song Deal: Judas Priest’s ‘Living After Midnight’

From what Amazon is telling me, March Is Metal, so all month long they’re having sales on all things metal – sounds good to me!

Today, they are offering up the MP3 version of the classic Judas Priest tune Living After Midnight for only $.69. Although the song was originally released on 1980’s British Steel, the MP3 version offered today is taken from the best-of compilation The Chosen Few, priced at $10.99 for 17 songs that are all, wait, let me double check the track listing… yeah, pretty much awesome.

Though it’s strange to talk about metal bands having hits, “Living After Midnight” definitely qualifies as one for Judas Priest and is basically a gateway song to their extensive music catalog. Plus, if you’re first learning how to play guitar or bass, “Living After Midnight” is one of the first songs you’ll be able to master, along with Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” and Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid.” So, if you’re not already a Priest fan, definitely get in on this $.69 MP3 song deal, and don’t be afraid to grab the entire The Chosen Few album right now at its current low price.

Rob Halford’s Motorcycle Malfunction: You Can’t Keep A Metal God Down

Judas Priest

Rob Halford is the Metal God, and with good reason. The lead singer of metal legends Judas Priest, currently on their final tour entitled Epitaph, recently had a bit of a fall off his motorcycle onstage, when riding on during the band’s performance of “Hell Bent For Leather.” The true metal professional that he is, Halford gets right back up again and continues kicking it with the band onstage. View video footage of the incident at the bottom of this post.

Interview: Judas Priest Guitarist Richie Faulkner

Followers of the metal were shocked when earlier this year Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing announced he was leaving the band after 40 years. His replacement is young Londoner Richie Faulkner — a man who knows how to set his fretboard alight and melt your face, while remaining cool as ice onstage.

The ex-Ace Mafia and Lauren Harris man took some time out during Priest’s current Epitaph World Tour to discuss his “dream” new life and being a sci-fi geek.

Geeks of Doom: Were you welcomed into the band?

Richie Faulkner: Absolutely. They’ve been nothing short of welcoming on every front really, on a personal level and a musical level as well. We arranged some of the songs live to put some extra guitar solos in there to showcase what I can do and you can’t get more welcome than that. You know, changing arrangements for classic songs like that just to accommodate what you can do I think that’s a great honour to be granted that opportunity.

Geeks of Doom: That twin guitar sound of KK Downing and Glenn Tipton was integral to Judas Priest and to metal music.

Richie Faulkner: Absolutely.

Geeks of Doom: Did you feel any pressure to be replacing a part of that?

Judas Priest Ram Down ‘American Idol’

Judas Priest

I despise American Idol. It goes against every fiber of belief I have in music. The Simon Cowell Cookie Cutter Factory of creating “stars” really gets on my last nerve. Despite my negativity towards the-show-that-distracts-millions, I can’t help but write about it at the moment, because metal gods Judas Priest made a guest appearance on the series finale the other night – and blew the whole show out of the water with a great performance, which you can view at the bottom of this post.

My hatred for American Idol aside, you have to admit that this is a good move for Priest in the publicity department. As reported here numerous times, the band are about to embark on their farewell tour, and making an impressive appearance on a show like this is a good way to get the word out beyond the regular fan base.

Will Judas Priest Perform On Tonight’s ‘American Idol’ Season Finale?

A close friend of mine called me up at work yesterday afternoon to say that she heard on the news that Judas Priest, one of my favorite bands ever, were going to be performing on the season finale of American Idol. I immediately began a frenzied Google search for any confirmation on this news, but all it yield were results for the video of contestant James Durbin singing the band’s popular tune, “You Got Another Thing Coming” from an episode in early March. Therefore, I assumed my friend must have just misunderstood what she heard on the news.

With Idol season finale airing tonight, now I’m starting to see rumors pop up online of Judas Priest’s possible appearance on the over 2-hour episode, which begins at 8pm on Fox. Word is that the band will perform with the 22-year-old Durbin, who was eliminated from Idol earlier this month.

Judas Priest has released a new promo image on their Facebook page highlighting their new line-up for their upcoming tour — and you can see the larger version at the bottom of this post. As previously reported here, the band announced their final tour, which they’ve titled The Farewell EPITAPH World Tour.

Following this announcement, it was revealed that guitarist K.K. Downing had formally retired from the band and will not be joining them on tour. Stepping into Downing’s shoes for the tour will be Richie Faulkner, who previously performed with Lauren Harris, daughter of Steve Harris from Iron Maiden.

Downing recently also released a formal statement on his official website regarding his retirement.

KK Downing of Judas Priest

Back in December, legendary British heavy metal band Judas Priest announced their plans for a Farewell Tour, called The Farewell EPITAPH World Tour, which would lead to their retirement. The tour would take the band on the road through 2011 and into part of 2012.

Since that announcement, it seemed that the Metal Gods weren’t totally calling it quits, with the news of a new album in the future.

Today comes word from the Priest camp that guitarist K.K. Downing has formally retired from the band and will not be joining them on the upcoming EPITAPH world tour.

It is with regret that Judas Priest announce that K.K. DOWNING has formally retired from the band and will therefore not be joining them on their forthcoming EPITAPH Tour.

The band respect his decision and naturally all wish him well.

Is ‘Master Of Puppets’ By Metallica The ‘Top Metal Song Of All Time’?
space
cGt2099   |

Master of PuppetsThe official website for Gibson guitars has released what they perceive to be the top 50 metal songs of all time. Gibson.com’s writers and editors worked on compiling the list over several weeks, releasing 10 entries at a time, and recently released the top 10, which declared the number one metal song to be “Master of Puppets” by Metallica.

In some ways, the number one spot for Metallica is fitting, considering 2011 is the 25th anniversary of the release of their Master of Puppets album. Having said that though, metalheads are notorious for having fierce and strong opinions about what they consider to be their “top songs,” on top of their fierce and strong opinions about what bands are or are not even metal.
