Solo: A Star Wars Story

These Star Wars spinoffs are a part of the larger universe and are meant to tell stories that aren’t about the core saga. We saw a little bit of that in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and we will see that once more in the Han Solo standalone film, which has been going by that non-title since the beginning of production and well after Ron Howard came in to direct the film.

But now the film has got an official title. So prepare yourselves, because come May 2018, we will see Solo: A Star Wars Story. More on the this below.

Paramount Not Happy J.J. Abrams Is Directing Another Star Wars

Finding a director for a Star Wars movie isn’t as easy you might think. But recent moves show that Disney has a few sources they can rely upon. Take J.J. Abramsrecent hiring to direct Star Wars: Episode IX. The Force Awakens director signed back on to direct the final installment of the trilogy after Colin Trevorrow exited the project due to creative differences. While the move may be a cause for celebration for some, it is disconcerting for a studio like Paramount, who has given the filmmaker a home for Bad Robot projects – Cloverfield, Super 8, the Star Trek films, etc.

Now there is word that Paramount isn’t happy with Abrams directing Star Wars: Episode IX, and there’s conflicting reports on how much it cost the studio to let Abrams take the job. More on the story below.

Star Wars: Episode IX Release Date

It wasn’t too long ago that Lucasfilm was looking for a Star Wars: Episode IX director to replace the departed Colin Trevorrow.

Now that we know J.J. Abrams will return to finish the trilogy he started with The Force Awakens, we are getting a few more details about the highly anticipated film. The film, which was originally slated for a May 2019 release, has now been pushed back all the way to December 2019. More on the story below.

J.J. Abrams To Direct ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Star Wars The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley and director J.J. Abrams

Just last week, Colin Trevorrow exited as director on Star Wars: Episode IX over creative differences. The film left a small void that didn’t need to be filled in a hurry considering that Star Wars: The Last Jedi hasn’t been released yet. Now, that void has been filled. By none other than Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams.

Lucasfilm hasn’t had a stable directing force ever since it was acquired by Disney. But they’ve been able to see three films all the way through with three directors. Abrams with The Force Awakens; Gareth Edwards – to a certain point – with Rouge One: A Star Wars Story, and Rian Johnson with the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In the past Josh Trank was forced out of another of the spinoffs due to his behind the scenes antics; Phil Lord and Chris Miller were let go due to creative differences on the still untitled Han Solo spinoff; and the same with Trevorrow on Episode IX. So let’s take a look at who will be joining the Star Wars director, below.

Walt Disney Studios logo

It wasn’t too long ago that Disney announced that Netflix would no longer stream their content and that they would be launching their own streaming service in 2019. At the time, many thought that meant only Disney and Pixar features, with Marvel and Star Wars continuing to stream at Netflix.

Now it appears that is no longer the case. Everything under the Disney sun will be moving over to the still unnamed streaming site. More on the story below.

Han Solo: Paul Bettany To Replace Michael K. William In ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff

Ron Howard and Paul Bettany On Han Solo Set

You have to hand it to Ron Howard for handling the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff as well as he is. For one thing, he is a bit more transparent, giving fans a look at everything that is going on behind the scenes, even he is releasing meaningless photos of craft food services. But for what it’s worth we are getting better looks at the set than we ever did before. But these reshoots have forced Michael K. William‘s character to be cut out of the entire film. While we knew he would have played “a half-human, half-animal” who was a “kick-ass character,” cutting his character seemed to indicate it wasn’t of major significance.

However, it appears that the character does hold some weight in the film. So much so that Howard turned to a reliable friend to act as William’s replacement. With a few caveats of course. That actor is a Beautiful Mind star Paul Bettany, whom you may know as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More on the story below.

Untitled Han Solo Movie Cast Photo

While the plot of Lucasfilm’s still very much untitled Han Solo spinoff remains under wraps, it appears that we won’t know how one character plays a role in the origins story.

Because of an intense schedule and the odd timing off these reshoots, Michael K. Williams‘ character had to be cut. For more on his reaction and what he expects to see, check out the full story below.

Obi-Wan Kenobi In Star Wars

So far we’ve seen one of the non-numbered Star Wars spinoffs, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We also know that, despite a rocky road traveled, a movie about a young Han Solo is coming next year.

Now a new Star Wars spinoff being developed by Lucasfilm has been revealed. It’s being reported that one of the future movies will focus on Obi-Wan Kenobi.
