Ghostbusters #13 kicks off the year-long “MASS HYSTERIA” storyline celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Ghostbusters! And believe me, by the looks of this issue, it’s not gonna be a cakewalk for the boys in gray!

Writer Erik Burnham never gives these poor guys a break. Wait, I take that back. In this issue, they have a nice little break from all the ghosts and busting because…. yeah, I’m not gonna spoil that part. But, needless to say, someone we all know and love gets exactly what he deserves. Meanwhile, one of the MOST demanded characters in Ghostbusters history makes their long, LONG awaited comic debut!!!!… and I’m not going to spoil that either. Man, this issue is hard to review without spoiling all the goodness inside. Let me put it this way: If you’ve ever seen the movie Ghostbusters, you’ll want to pick up this issue.

Release Date: May 22, 2013
Cover Price: $3.99

The New Ghostbusters #4 is the epic team-up that we never knew we wanted. The Ghostbusters team up with THE GHOSTBUSTERS!!! No, STILL not the ones with the monkey. Leave that alone, it’s never happening. But, we get something much, much better.

Thanks to Erik Burnham, who’s mind came up with The New Ghostbusters, we finally get the two teams working together to stop a group of big bads that have been menacing them both since the last series. As usual, the writing is crisp, brisk, and full of laughs. What Burnham adds to this fourth installment is some really great character moments. Yes, he does that from time to time in the series, but this issue he gives it a new spin when The Ghostbusters are forced to team up with members of the OTHER Ghostbusting team. The result, is great. Most of the story takes place in the very creepy Parkview insane asylum, and that atmosphere is the perfect place for the climax of this story. Add to that a great ending, and an afterthought cliffhanger that you KNEW was coming, and you’ve got a really really well written issue.

Release Date: April 17, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

The New Ghostbusters #3 is one hell of a summer movie told in comic book form. About two pages in, I wanted to grab some butter-drenched popcorn and Reese’s Pieces.

How man times do I have to sing Erik Burnham‘s praises? Looks like at least once more. This guy is a FANTASTIC writer and I don’t know how he doesn’t work more than he does. When it comes to dialogue, he’s one of the best in the business right now, BAR NONE. I can hear the actors delivering his line as I read the pages, and it’s so natural, that the movie really does play in your head as you read the comic.

Release Date: March 13, 2013
Cover Price: $3.99

The New Ghostbusters #2 continues the adventures of a VERY different team of Ghostbusters. Thankfully, there’s no giant monkeys.

Wow, Erik Burnham. Just wow. I can’t remember when a comic has been so consistently entertaining and not dropped in quality. And, I might add, keep its monthly schedule. This is FANTASTIC!!! I still can’t believe that month in and month out, I ACTUALLY laugh out loud at some of the gags and one-liners. Congratulations, Mr. Burnham. That never happens with any other book. This issue is no exception to that rule. Along with The New Ghostbusters, we also get a new supporting cast. Some of them are familiar, some not, but they’re all great. Just like last issue, we get the main adventure focusing on the new team, with a little bit of the classic Ghostbusters thrown in for good measure. Both stories are moved forward at a great pace, nothing rushed or forced, and everything comes to a great and suspenseful stopping point at the issues end.
