LucasBooks
Release date: May 4, 2012

If you’re a Star Wars fan, chances are you’re intrigued by the dynamic between the evil Darth Vader and his estranged Jedi Knight son Luke Skywalker. Once Luke learns of his paternity, of course, he’s shocked and left in disbelief. After he comes to terms with the news, Luke wants to “save” his father from the Dark Side.

But what if Darth Vader hadn’t been separated from his son at birth and he actually was able to take part in raising the young Skywalker? That’s the journey Darth Vader and Son, a new hardcover picture book in the Star Wars Chronicle series, takes us on. And what a sweet one it is.

The Empire Strikes Back

Do you remember where you were when you first watched Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back and experienced its big reveal at the end? Some of you likely do and many of you probably do not, but technology has come a long way and moments such as that can now be captured for all eternity.

Enter Faris, a four–year–old who recently saw the ending of Empire for the first time, captured on camera by his parents. After recording the reaction they sent the video to Harry Knowles over at AICN, who started a column that looks at we who grew up as geeks and kids today who are well on their way. The column is called “Raising Geeks.”

You can see the video of young Faris reacting to the end of The Empire Strikes Back by continuing on below now, and you can see more by heading to the source link.

Watch Now: The Star Wars Holiday Special In Five Minutes

Leia's O Face? For those who celebrate Wookiee Life Day as opposed to all of the other end-of-year holidays, we have a treat for you… the Star Wars Holiday Special in 5 minutes, specially edited to only focus on the “live-action” stuff. Watch it here below.

If you haven’t seen the Holiday Special before, it’s certainly a gem from its time. If you thought Expanded Universe debates and Originals vs. Prequels debates turn out to divide fans, wait until you get in the middle of an argument about this thing.

Complete with Bea Arthur and Jefferson Starship, The Star Wars Holiday Special first aired in November 1978 and also featured Han and Chewie, Luke Skywalker with the WORST possible haircut ever, and Princess Leia singing a song that is sure to induce brain hemorrhages.

The original full special also marked a few firsts: one of which was the very first appearance of Boba Fett (before his debut in The Empire Strikes Back) in a short animated story involving Luke, Han, Chewie, the Droids, and some weird beast of burden Fett rides.

Is That Mark Hamill In The Deleted ‘Return Of The Jedi’ Scene?

Return of the JediOver the weekend at Star Wars Celebration V, George Lucas showed the attendees a never-before-seen clip from Return Of The Jedi that shows Luke Skywalker constructing his lightsaber [read Watch Now: Deleted Lightsaber Scene From ‘Return Of The Jedi’].

According to a video interview below that Original Prop Blog did at last year’s Comic-Con, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, remembers shooting no such scene. Hamill does go on to say that it doesn’t mean the clip wasn’t shot for Return Of The Jedi, after all, he wasn’t in the scene where Luke’s hand is being repaired either. So, there’s a chance that it’s not Mark Hamill in this newly revealed lightsaber scene.

Well this makes the missing scene a little less awesome.

‘Batman: Arkham Asylum 2’ To Be The Last Of Mark Hamill’s Joker

Batman: Arkham Asylum

When it comes to the voice of infamous Batman villain The Joker in animated series, video games, and even things like toys and other merchandise, there is simply no one better than Mark Hamill.

The man best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original (and only, to some) Star Wars trilogy has also handled the voice of the colorful Joker on the Batman and Superman animated series, The New Batman Adventures, more comical shows like Robot Chicken, and of course, in the highly-popular 2008 video game, Batman: Arkham Asylum.

With that game going on to make an insane $562 million, a sequel was guaranteed and pretty much went directly into production on Batman: Arkham Asylum 2, already delivering a teaser trailer this past December (Read: Video Game Awards ‘09: ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum 2′ Trailer). But according to reports, Mr. Hamill himself was not so guaranteed.

WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS!

It’s been thirty years since The Empire Strikes Back, the much-anticipated sequel to George Lucas’ 1977 mega-hit cultural touchstone Star Wars, opened in theaters around the world and the impact it made upon audiences and critics has not dulled a bit, and for good reason. The movie proved that the success of the first Star Wars film was no well-timed fluke and even a movie that essentially paid homage to space operas, samurai films, and westerns could evolve beyond its influences and become its own beast. Best of all it was better than Star Wars in every possible way: the script by Leigh Brackett (screenwriter of such classic films as The Big Sleep, Rio Bravo, and The Long Goodbye) and Lawrence Kasdan (who later went on to co-write Raiders of Lost Ark and enter his own directing career) opened up the universe Lucas had created and expanded the scope with an epic, serpentine tale that was more darker, richer, and emotional than the original and overflowing with memorable characters, and quotable dialogue; the direction by Irvin Kershner was professional and assured; and the cast, free of George Lucas’ stilted writing and relative inexperience with actors (despite the fact that he had directed the actor-heavy American Graffiti to great success), were able to give deeper and more nuanced performances under the direction of the deferential Kershner.
