James Wan

It looks like that MacGyver movie is coming closer to hitting theaters than originally thought. Development for the film has been quiet as of late, but New Line Cinema is now in talks with Saw and Insidious director James Wan to helm the big screen adaptation.

The film is using a script drafted by Jason Richman and polished by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn (yes the two are related to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn). The talks come on the heels of Warner Bros. pushing up the release date for Wan’s supernatural horror flick The Conjuring. Apparently test audiences are responding positively to the film, which is why the studio made such a move.

In the world of licensed comics, there’s the good, the bad, and the awesome. Sometimes a writer loves the franchise a little TOO much, and more often than not, that leads to bad comics. In other cases, the writer knows NOTHING about the franchise and that leads to a lack of proper characterization and messy story lines. Then, there’s cases where the creative team is dead on perfect for the property and everything meshes into a beautiful blend of a great story, awesome art, and it makes pretty much the perfectly enjoyable comic book. Thankfully, MacGyer #1 is that comic.

Each and every week “Sweet Lou” Henchman21 reads a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It’s a big week of comics as Marvel NOW! kicks off and a the Joker returns to torture Batman, among many other things which I’m sure are also happening in any number of books. There are a ton of books to get this week, including one very special book. So find a paper clip, some chewing gum, and a couple of rubber bands, and make some kind of space ship to take you to your nearest comic retailer, because it’s time for the GoD List!

Now That ‘MacGruber’ Has Arrived, ‘MacGyver’ Movie Grabs A Writer

MacGyver

Yes, the SNL sketch-turned feature-length movie MacGruber was a spoof on the popular ’80s and ’90s TV series, MacGyver. And though it’s not doing the best at the box office right now, consensus seems to be that it is quite the hilarious movie. But did you know that an actual MacGyver movie was being developed as well?

New Line Cinema has hired Jason Richman to begin work on a script for the movie adaptation of the television series. The series, which starred Richard Dean Anderson, ran from 1985 to 1992 on ABC and followed a brilliant secret agent who was able to infiltrate and escape any place and situation, no matter how difficult or how little resources that he had available to him. Anderson also appeared in a couple of TV movies and in some of the MacGruber sketches.

Seriously? ‘MacGyver’ The Movie!

MacGyver

Remake announcements have been flooding in. Some have been painful to hear, some a little amusing, and some just ridiculous. Falling into the “ridiculous” column — it’s being reported that popular ’80s TV show MacGyver will be remade into a feature length movie.

MacGyver told of the adventures of a special agent who was able to get out of the worst of situations and captivity, using only the simplest objects. It starred Richard Dean Anderson.

My only wonder here, is can the title MacGyver really sell in these modern times, or would it be more fruitful to just make a movie using the concept of a super smart dude who gets out of problems using insanely creative methods? I think using the title may just harm this project more than do it good, considering MacGyver for the most part is pretty much used for joke purposes these days.
