World War Z PosterWorld War Z
Director: Marc Forster
Writer(s): Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, Damon Lindelof
Cast: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, David Morse
Paramount Pictures
Rated PG-13 | 116 Minutes
Release Date: June 21, 2013

Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), World War Z is based on Max Brooks‘ 2006 novel, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a retired United Nations employee who must travel the world to find a way to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and collapsing governments.

As a novel, World War Z exists as a collection of individual accounts, wherein the author assumes the role of a member of the United Nations Postwar Commission one decade after the Zombie War. Passages record a decade-long war against zombies, as experienced by people of various nationalities. Personal accounts also describe the religious, geo-political, and environmental changes that resulted from the Zombie War.

As a film, World War Z focuses on the zombies themselves, human bodies reanimated by an incurable virus, devoid of intelligence and craving living flesh – and immortal unless the brain is destroyed, of course. After securing his wife (Mireille Enos) and kids on an aircraft carrier, Pitt’s character traverses the globe in search of a cure for the rabies-like infection that turns humans into ol’ Zeke.

World War Z

No doubt intended to coincide with the forthcoming summer release of the troubled big-budget movie with Brad Pitt, the audio book adaptation of Max Brooks‘ best-selling horror classic World War Z is getting an expanded release this year, and the project is attracting some major celebrity names to the fold – including a few surprises.

World War Z: The Complete Edition will include five more hours of stories from Brooks’ highly influential book that has been considered to be one of the greatest stories of apocalyptic zombie terror ever told. Among the new cast members lending their voices to this unabridged version will be actor and rapper Common (American Gangster), actor Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2), writer-director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), Firefly/Castle star Nathan Fillion, actor/screenwriter Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), and most surprisingly of all, Oscar-winner and filmmaking giant Martin Scorsese.

World War Z Image

The first trailer for Marc Forster‘s adaptation of the Max Brooks book World War Z looked pretty promising…until the zombies showed up, that is. Ultra-fast, heavily CGI, and moving as one like a pack of insects or a hungry wave of water, these zombies simply looked unappealing.

Now comes a new look at the movie, a 30-second TV spot that will air this Sunday during the Super Bowl.

Will this second peek at World War Z make you more excited to see it or less? Only one way to find out! Proceed, and may you find the answers that you seek.

Brad Pitt in World War Z

With all that has happened to Marc Forster‘s adaptation of Max BrooksWorld War Z, you might think that the zombie apocalypse actually happened. For one thing, the film, which stars Brad Pitt, went through many rewrites and reshoot, by the time the film actually entered the extensive reshooting phase, which forced the film to push back its original release date, many deemed the film dead on arrival.

So a new trailer has arrived and you can judge for yourself if the film was worth the wait, but from what I have been hearing, the film is a complete departure from the Brooks’ novel, and that is sure to upset fans of the book. Check it out below.
