Walker Stalker Con zombie logo

All reports of The Walking Dead’s demise have been greatly overstated. By 9:15am on Saturday (over an hour before doors opened to the general public), the parking lot of the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center was jam packed and lines were forming outside for this year’s Walker Stalker Con. When the doors opened at 10:30am, it was as if the zombies had broken through the gates! Fans of the AMC television series, which is currently in its ninth season, packed the convention hall to meet their favorite stars, get autographs, take photos, and sit for Q&A panels.

Warning – SPOILERS for AMC’s The Walking Dead…

It was nearly 7 months ago when we got the Season 6 finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead, and it was an excruciatingly long wait, considering that we were left with a cliffhanger of terrifying proportions. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was introduced as the villainous Negan, a leather jacket-clad, well-spoken madman who wields a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat named Lucille that he uses to bash people’s heads in. Rick and his crew had run afoul with Negan’s soldiers after they raided what they thought was his main compound in a preemptive attack. Turns out, that was just an outpost.

Meanwhile, Morgan was off looking for Carol, who left the Alexandria Safe Zone because she couldn’t bare to kill anymore, even though she was obviously very good at it. He eventually found her hiding and injured, but she refused to return with him. Instead, she ran off again only to be found by one of the Saviors from the group she slaughtered (in her defense, they attacked her first), who then shoots her. Thankfully, it was Morgan to the rescue again. Right after Morgan kills the attacking Savior, two other men wearing homemade armor arrive, one of whom is on horseback. Morgan tells them that Carol is injured and needs help, and one of the men say, “Then let’s get you some help” and shakes Morgan’s hand — a symbol of hope in this desperate world.

Walker Stalker Con Sign

This past weekend, the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison, NJ hosted Walker Stalker Con. The convention featured stars of AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead as well as several other guests. The ferocious fans, many dressed as zombies (cough… walkers) were given an opportunity to meet, greet, get autographs from, take selfies with, and coolest of all, chat with their favorite actors. The weekend of the 2nd/3rd we were at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Secaucus, and one thing that was obvious at both cons, sometimes smaller is better!

Check out some of my celebrity highlights below.

Warning – SPOILERS for The Walking Dead Season 6…

The Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead aired tonight, and as we expected, Negan finally made his first on-screen appearance, and yes, it was terrifying and there were grave consequences.

We left off last week with what looked to be Daryl getting shot by Dwight, one of Negan’s men he had encountered and saved earlier in the season. Dwight turned out to be a backstabber, and Daryl spent the rest of the season lamenting that he let the man live, especially after Dwight used Daryl’s own crossbow to kill Denise. This was supposed to be the shocking cliffhanger, because we didn’t know if this meant that Daryl was dead.

At the start of the season 6 finale, “Last Day On Earth,” we of course do not get any resolution as to what happened to Daryl, or the fate of Glenn, Michonne, and Rosita, who were also taken captive by Dwight and his fellow Saviors. Instead, we get Morgan finding Carol, as well as Rick and several others from the Alexandria Safe Zone trying to get Maggie to the doctor at the Hilltop.

Warning – SPOILERS for The Walking Dead Season 6…

This week’s The Walking Dead, Episode 6.15, “East,” deals with the aftermath of Carol’s unexpected departure from the Alexandria Safe Zone, as well as Daryl’s need to avenge Denise’s death and set things right.

After the previous episode, it becomes obvious that a new battle will begin between the Alexandrians and Negan’s Saviors. But Carol has been struggling recently with the fact that her human kill count is well into the double digits. At this point, she feels like she can no longer kill. And she won’t kill. So, she plans to leave her friends at the Safe Zone, but for what we do not know. Talk about bad timing.

Meanwhile, Daryl is struggling with Denise’s death at the hands of Dwight, one of the Saviors who he had previously tried to help even after the man took him captive. Daryl feels like if he had killed Dwight when he had the chance, then Denise would still be alive. He wants revenge. He wants to finish Dwight like he should have before, and feels that he was soft to let the man live.

Warning – SPOILERS for The Walking Dead Season 6…

This week’s The Walking Dead, Episode 6.14,”Twice As Far,” slowed things down a bit after the insanity that happened last week when Carol and Maggie were taken hostage by a small sect of The Saviors. Carol once again proved that she is a powerhouse, but her fierceness and highly tuned survival skills have come at a cost, one that she doesn’t seem to want to pay anymore.

But, if you’re a fan of this AMC series, then you know that when you have 45 minutes of quiet, shit is going to go down in the last 15 minutes, and that’s what happened this time around, too.

The Walking Dead, Season 6, Episode 13 Review

The Walking Dead
Episode 6.13 “The Same Boat”
Directed by Billy Gierhart
Written by Angela Kang
Starring Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohen, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James
AMC
Air date: Sunday, March 13, 2016, 9pm

Warning – SPOILERS for The Walking Dead Season 6…

This week’s episode of The Walking Dead, Episode 6.13 “The Same Boat,” focused only Carol and Maggie, who had been taken captive by a small sect of The Saviors, Negan’s people. Last week, Rick and his team had invaded what they believed to be Negan’s compound for a deadly sneak attack, which was their end of the deal they made with the Hilltop people. Carol and Maggie had been guarding the perimeter while the rest of the group invaded the compound and massacred its sleeping occupants, blurring the lines between right and wrong.

It was obvious leading up to this ambush that Carol, who went from being a meek and battered housewife to a total badass warrior, was having a crisis of conscience of sorts. She had realized that the number of people (that’s live humans, not Walkers) she’s killed is well into double digits, and that the attack on The Saviors was going to lead to total bloodshed. For a long time, Carol, who has been masquerading around the Alexandria Safe Zone as a happy cookie-making homemaker, has had her own code she lived by — she did what she had to do to survive, even if it meant ending another life, but she didn’t relish in it, which differentiated her from people like the Wolves. But, perhaps now she realizes that the mass slaughter of Negan’s people is far beyond even what she is willing to do.

Air date: Sunday, March 6, 2016, 9pm

Warning – SPOILERS for The Walking Dead Season 6…

A lot happened last week on AMC’s The Walking Dead, where Rick and the Alexandrians went with Jesus back to his home at Hilltop, where they learned more about Negan and his group, The Saviors. Rick and company have guns and ammo, but not enough food. So, in an effort to barter for food with the Hilltoppers, they were considering attacking the Savior’s compound to kill Negan’s people.

This week, in Episode 6.12 “Not Tomorrow Yet,” Rick returns to Alexandria and calls a meeting: It’s time to decide whether they will fight. Keep in mind, The Saviors had already killed Hilltop residents and were holding a hostage, all to extort more food and supplies from the meek Hilltoppers. It’s an us or them situation. But fighting means killing — killing the living, that is.
