Y: The Last Man Vertigo

It’s already been nearly three years since it was reported that an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s incredible comic book Y: The Last Man was now being developed as a TV series at FX instead of the long in-development movie, and nearly two years since we found out that Logan and Blade Runner 2049 writer and former American Gods showrunner Michael Green would be the showrunner. It’s since been announced that Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones) will also be sharing showrunner duties with Green.

Now things are really starting to heat up as a cast for the series, which is simply titled Y, has been announced. Starring in the pilot episode will be Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, Brotherhood), Imogen Poots (Green Room, 28 Weeks Later), Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Man of Steel), Juliana Canfield (Succession, Plain Fiction), and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water).

Continue below to see who the actors will be playing.

American Gods A Zorya sister drinking

Things have gone great for the Starz TV series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s book American Gods thus far. The show premiered this past April to critical acclaim, and within a couple of weeks of debuting a season two had been given the greenlight. The complete first season arrived on Blu-ray and DVD last month, and season two is expected to arrive sometime next year.

But things weren’t always so good with American Gods. The series was in development for many years, including at HBO, who ultimately decided to pass on it before the project eventually landed at Starz the following year. Just as things got much better then, it was only a matter of time before some bad news. And today, that bad news arrives at our doors. It’s being reported that creators and showrunners Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) and Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) have decided to depart from the series.

American Gods Season 1 Wednesday and Shadow

American Gods
Season 1
Blu-ray | DVD
Developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green for Starz Television
Starring Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Crispin Glover, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Gillian Anderson
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: October 17, 2017

Much like Watchman, the highly regarded comic book miniseries from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Neil Gaiman‘s 2001 fantasy novel American Gods was something fans figured would be too difficult to translate to the big screen. It’s definitely a story better left for television, where it could be told over many episodes and possibly even seasons, and it almost happened in 2011 when HBO snagged the rights. But the cable giant that gave us the masterpiece that is Game Of Thrones, a worthy adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s best-selling fantasy series, just couldn’t get an American Gods series off the ground. A few years later, Fremantle Media bought the rights with Starz jumping on to develop a show with Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) and Michael Green (Logan) as showrunners. Now that sounded promising! Even more promising “” Gaiman himself was on board as an executive producer. What happened next was the creation of one of the best shows on television.

Blade Runner 2049
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Screenwriter: Hampton Fancher, Michael Green
Cast: Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Rated R | 163 Minutes
Release Date: October 6, 2017

Blade Runner doesn’t have all the flashy substance that makes up what some would say is a traditional sci-fi film, but it sure does have all the nuances and subtleties that would make for a great sci-fi noir. Slow-burning detective stories still continue to unravel even in the distant future. You still have the stark monochromatic colors, a constant stream of pessimism, and a character that is drawn into the world of crime. You add a splash of sci-fi, that not only mixes well together, but proves that the elements can work in the right hands.

Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve‘s strikingly visual follow-up, takes place 30 years after Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. The filmmaker stays true to the themes explored by Scott’s adaptation of the Philip K. Dick book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?), while also building upon the mystery and intrigue, as well as adding even more themes that will have audiences talking, even well after the film has ended. Check out the full review below.

Blade Runner 2049 Prequel Short "Black Out 2022"

The final of three Blade Runner 2049 prequel shorts, titled “Black Out 2022,” was released recently.

This one is a little different from the previous two shorts, “2036: Nexus Dawn” and “2048: Nowhere to Run.” For one thing this short is much longer, clocking in at nearly 16 minutes in length. The other two were only around six minutes in length. It’s also not live-action like the previous two were. The final prequel short was instead created in the style of Japanese anime. In fact, it was made by Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo fame.

You can find more on Blade Runner 2049 and check out the new prequel short below.
