Once again, Dark Horse Comics has given Geeks of Doom exclusive access to five great new comics coming in May and June. And you know what? We want to give you a sneak peek, too! Because trust me, these are some great books here. Check out all five covers here below!

First off, releasing on May 29, is King Conan: Hour of the Dragon #2 (of 6). This second installment in the adaptation of Robert E. Howard‘s only actual Conan novel is sure to please. I know the cover by Gerald Parel definitely gets you interested with that vicious claw reaching forth towards our hero. Then, just in case you didn’t get your Cimmerian fix with that one, we have Conan the Barbarian #17 arriving on June 19 with a wonderful aquatic cover by Massimo Carnevale (I loved his Orchid covers, too).

But the big release day is June 26! Showing off the Shu Yan cover to Akaneiro #2 (of 3), I find myself really interested in this set. Look how kickass she looks! Remember, this is based upon the new release from Spicy Horse Games (be sure to check that out, too). Next up is a comic that originally debuted in Dark Horse Presents: Amala’s Blade #3 (of 4) has a very eye-catching cover from Michael Dialynas. Although I know next to nothing about this miniseries, the sheer quantity of skulls in the art gets my attention. And last, but certainly not least, we get to show you Mind MGMT #12. MTV Geek named this comic one of the top ten comics in 2012. I’m impressed with this series across the board, especially since Matt Kindt is the only person working on this book…yeah, that’s right, he does it all!

A big thanks to Dark Horse for letting us have first crack at these wonderful comics. But enough from me, here is YOUR first look:

Mind MGMT

Every week it seems like another comic book property is getting bought up by a film company with the hopes of turning it into a movie or TV show, and this week is no different as Deadline reports that Matt Kindt‘s Mind MGMT was picked up by Twentieth Century Fox. Helping bring the series to life will be famed director Ridley Scott, who is set to produce the series through his Scott Free production company.

Mind MGMT is published by Dark Horse Comics and follows the story of Meru, a writer trying to finish her second book. Her plan is to track down the reason why a flight full of passengers all came down with amnesia. Her journey sets her on the path of one Harry Lime, who ends up being part of a mysterious government group known as Mind MGMT. The organization is made up of various psychics who have been guiding the world for decades. The first six issues of the series can easily be adapted to the screen and we’ll have to see if anymore of the series works its way into the script.

Dark Horse Comics has provided Geeks of Doom with an exclusive first look at a handful of comics that they have set for March and one collection set for May, and let me tell you, they’re all awesome.

First up from these comics is the heavily praised Mind MGMT #9 from writer/artist Matt Kindt whose watercolored cover gets across a nice moment in a violent world, while also showing a hint of musical influence. I’m interested. I haven’t been picking up this comic in single issues, but based on what I’m hearing about this comic, it’s one I’m dying to read. Another comic coming in March is The Black Beetle: No Way Out #3 (of 4) by Francesco Francavilla, who is a creator whose artwork is just simply amazing and unique in the modern comics world. If you read this comic’s run in Dark Horse Presents, you know what to expect, which should also tell you that you don’t want to miss it. Also available is the new mini-series The Answer! #3 (of 4) by Mike Norton and Dennis Hopeless with cover art from Mark Englert. I’m not too familiar with the premise of The Answer!, but if it’s what it seems, I want my hands all over this comic. It appears to be a fresh and interesting take on detective based superhero comics with death traps, and if you know me, you know I love death traps. The creators are rad and the premise is strong, so this is a comic to keep your eyes on. And then, in May comes the 13th Archive edition of Eerie, a 264-page collection that features work from Wally Wood, Bernie Wrightson, Budd Lewis, Richard Corben and many, many more. If you haven’t been picking up these archives of the classic horror anthology, it’s never too late, so get on that.

Anyway, now that all the talk is out of the way, let’s take a look at all these great covers after the jump!

Interview: Matt Kindt, Writer and Artist For ‘Mind MGMT’

2012-06-11 Mind MGMTYou’re on an airplane and you suddenly forget who you are. And it’s not just you; the stewardess, the guy next to you, the whole plane, including the pilots, have all forgotten who they are and what they’re doing there. This is the imagery that opens Dark Horse’s new ongoing series, Mind MGMT.

Written and drawn by Matt Kindt , a master of off-beat espionage storytelling, Mind MGMT tells the story of Meru, an investigative reporter and bestselling author who delves into a fact-finding mission to uncover what cause of the strange flight, a journey that will take her across the world and across the path of dangerous rogue mentalists.

Depending on who you ask, Kindt (3 Story, Super Spy) is either one of the most indie guys working in mainstream comics or one of the most kick-ass dudes working in indie comics. We chatted with him about his career, doing his first monthly title and hiding Easter Eggs on his pages.

Geeks of Doom: So much of the story is about memory, how did you approach exploring memory and the loss of it in the comic book medium?

Matt Kindt: I feel like I’m always tackling memory in every book I’ve done in some way or another. Usually it’s because that’s how I’m trying to think of how my own memory works. What do I remember? Why do I remember that? That kind of thing.

vPremiere: Mind MGMT #5 and Fatima: The Blood Spinners

Covers, we got covers! And that starts with C and that rhymes with C and that stands for comics. Sorry, I slipped into The Music Man for a second there, but we’ve got something great for you to check out today and that is our exclusive premiere of covers for Dark Horse Comics’ Mind MGMT #5 and Fatima: The Blood Spinners #4.

Fatima comes to us from the mind of Love and Rockets creator Gilbert Hernandez. In this final issue of the mini-series, Fatima and her zombie hunters discover a civilization they couldn’t imagine and then face off against a horde of monsters and the horrible truth about the future of humanity. How will the series wrap up? I got no clue, but it sounds exciting.
