Zombies and aliens and separatists, oh my! Chris Ryall and Drew Moss are back and they’ve surely picked up the pace since issue number one. If you enjoyed the first installment of this rollicking adventure, you’re sure to delight in the mayhem that ensues in The Colonized #2.

The self-governing town of Carbon Falls has recently been overrun by a horde of zombies and a crashed alien spaceship. Carbon Falls’ appointed leader, Hux, continues to butt heads with self-proclaimed leader, Randy Roy; their ideals, southern drawl, and an armory of weapons force the men into a standstill as they discover that the alien’s malfunctioned tractor-beam was the cause of the zombie outbreak. Eventually deciding to hide the aliens until the group can help them leave Earth, they make their way back to the home of Hux’s recently deceased father. Randy Roy “” still heated that the aliens “caused” one of his friends to die “” triggers a ruckus when he makes a violent decision. Startling discoveries are made and if all of these peculiar characters weren’t enough, someone else is secretly roaming around their territory as well!

Dredd has continued to be published by 2000 AD on a weekly basis since the character first appeared. It has been re-collected and distributed by such companies as Eagle Comics and Fleetway/Quality Comics. It was also a part of DC Comics’ lineup at one point in time. Now Judge Dredd is being published by an American company, IDW Publishing, as well as the continued stories in 2000 AD. IDW will go with the continuity already set by 2000 AD instead of trying to create their own. This is evident in the first issue of this newly launched series.

Inspired by the Short Story “The Cape” by Joe Hill

Release Date: September 12, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

And so here we are at The Cape: 1969 #3, the power is in Captain Chase’s hands, and with two issues to go, the only question remaining is: how will he use it and how far will he go? For anyone not reading The Cape: 1969, it follows a medevac pilot in Vietnam who just so happens to be the father of Eric and Nicky, the brothers from The Cape. He finds himself in a bad situation, against a sadistic Vietcong troop commander, and then some Weird War Tales stuff happens.

Writer Jason Ciaramella is committed to making this a rather believable war story with superpowers instead of a story about superpowers that just so happen to take place in a historical setting; or at least a good war script with superpowers. Artist Nelson Daniel is a great companion to this project. His drawings aren’t ‘gritty’, but certainly show enough ability to make a war story, and are actually quite refreshing in contrast. Meanwhile, his use of colors remains top notch. His palette of ruddy browns, greens, and oranges complement the dark tone of the story; he also has a special knack for making grotesque violence distinct with blazing reds saturating the backdrops enough to bleed through the page. The use of screen tones is a little obtrusive here, without giving the book the vintage charm I think he’s going for, but it’s not a big deal.

Road Rage is a collaboration between Stephen King and his son, Joe Hill. Initially published as a novella and then audiobook in 2009, the publication compiles the collaborative story Throttle, and the short story which it pays tribute to, Duel by Richard Matheson. IDW is in the process of publishing their comic book adaptation of Road Rage, and the impact of the first issue is solid and memorable.

Road Rage #1 is the first chapter of King’s and Hill’s Throttle. The story follows a biker gang known as the tribe, led by Vince, with a range of characters brought to life in vivid visuals. Also a member of the gang is a man called Lemmy, clearly named – and artistically designed – after the memorable frontman from Motörhead.
