Pennywise in Stephen King's It

It was a sad, sad day when we found out that True Detective season one director Cary Fukunaga had decided to walk away from the two-part movie adaptation of Stephen King’s horror tome It after a dispute with New Line Cinema on the direction of the project. He had been working on development for about three years.

Now Fukunaga has finally shared his thoughts on the departure. But don’t continue below expecting to see an angry, frustrated rant aimed toward New Line. No matter how infuriated the director was by the way things played out, he took the high road when talking about what happened. At least this time.

Nightmare on Elm Street Freddy Kruger

Five years ago, Platinum Dunes attempted to revive A Nightmare On Elm Street with a brand spanking new reboot for a younger generation. However, the film, starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Kruger, wasn’t very well-received by critics or audiences, and bombed at the box office. But when it comes to horror icons of those cheesy and campy slasher films of 80s, they do not stay dead for long.

New Line Cinema will once again be stirring up a few nightmares in an all new reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street, which will reportedly ignore the damage that was done in the 2010 film.

More on the story below.

Guillermo del Toro Departs ‘Justice League Dark’; ‘Sandman’ Now At New Line Cinema

Guillermo del Toro

The Hollywood Reporter ran an article yesterday about how Warner Bros. is currently in the process of moving some of their less kid-friendly DC Comics movie projects, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s Sandman adaptation, over to their New Line Cinema division.

Buried at the very end was the most distressing news the article contained: Guillermo del Toro is no longer directing Justice League Dark, by far the one future DC film venture I wanted to see made more than anything.

James Wan To Direct ‘The Conjuring 2’; WB Pushes Sequel To 2016

James Wan

James Wan‘s The Conjuring was a bonafide thriller and critical success, and of course when you have a box office smash that also happens to be an R-rated horror film, studios want to see more — remember Saw. The film also contained various demon-possessed objects like the Annabelle doll which received its own spinoff film, Annabelle — which was also another box office hit.

Considering Wan said he was going to take a break from horror by directing Fast and Furious 7, some wondered when we would make his return to the scare-filled genre. It appears that his break won’t last very long, as it has been confirmed that he will return to direct The Conjuring 2, which is set for a 2016 release.

Shazam Might Not Be On ‘Justice League’ Film Roster

Shazam DC Comics Header Image

It’s only been a few hours since it was announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would play Black Adam in Shazam. While it was thought that this news meant that Shazam’s introduction might be included in Justice League, New Line’s Toby Emmerich has said that possibility is slim to none. The film will still have the DC brand name attached to it, but Shazam will be produced under New Line’s banner, which is actually a branch of WB. That being said, it is unlikely that the hero will be accepted into the DC Cinematic Universe.

Annabelle In The Conjuring

A sequel to last summer’s hit horror movie The Conjuring was already in the works before the first movie was officially released. But until that follow-up arrives, New Line has a little surprise for fans.

The company has announced an official release date for a spinoff to The Conjuring, which will be titled Annabelle. The movie will arrive in theaters this Halloween season on October the 3rd.

The Conjuring Header

James Wan‘s The Conjuring, which opens this weekend, is based on one of Ed and Lorianne Warren’s case files. If their names don’t ring a bell, then you might have watched a movie based on one of their previous cases: The Amityville Horror or The Haunting In Connecticut. I caught an advanced screening of the film during the LA Film Festival and have nothing but nice things to say about it.

So it comes as no surprise that all that positive word of mouth has convinced Warner Brothers to move forward with a sequel.

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, the stars of National Lampoon’s long-running Vacation series, have entered into talks to reprise their role for New Line Cinema’s reboot of the franchise, fittingly titled Vacation.

The movie stars Ed Helms (The Hangover, The Office) as Rusty Griswold, the son of Chase’s Clark Griswold, who’s now all grown up and with a family of his own he’s taking on vacation. Christina Applegate is attached to play his wife.

Patton Oswalt Gets Brutally Honest About The Failures Of ‘Blade: Trinity’

BAADASSSSS!   |

Patton Oswalt

When the first Blade movie hit theater screens in August of 1998 it became a surprise smash hit and accomplished several noteworthy goals: it gave Wesley Snipes an iconic movie hero in the mold of Rambo and John McClane to call his own, spawned one of New Line Cinema’s most lucrative franchises since the heyday of Freddy Krueger and the Ninja Turtles, and it proved that Marvel Comics characters could successfully headline their own motion picture adventures, thus paving the way for Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Avengers to rule the box office in the years that followed. It took four years for a sequel to come together but with Guillermo Del Toro at the helm, Blade II surpassed the original in every way and became one of the best comic book movie sequels of all. The rapturous reception from moviegoers and critics that greeted Blade II helped revive Del Toro’s American directing career.

Expectations were high for a third Blade movie; at one point German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) was rumored to take the reins for a post-apocalyptic sequel that would have had Snipes’ monosyllabic vampire hunter continue his neverending battle in a world dominated by the bloodthirsty undead. Instead David S. Goyer, the screenwriter who was instrumental in bringing Blade to the big screen, signed on to write and direct the movie that would be released in December 2004 as Blade: Trinity. The end result has since been deemed by many to be one of the worse comic book movies ever made, if not the absolute worse. Make no mistake friends, if you’ve never seen the movie you’re not missing anything at all. It’s atrocious. In the annals of superhero it ranks with the likes of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Elektra. Blade: Trinity makes other maligned third chapters of comic book movie franchises like X-Men: The Last Stand and Spider-Man 3 look like masterpieces in comparison.
