The popularity of Netflix’s Stranger Things has inspired a phenomenon. The show, which takes cues from many iconic sci-fi films of the ’80s, will be debuting its second season tomorrow.

And what would a hit show be without an aftershow. But how does an aftershow work for a series that releases all its episodes in one day? Well, Netflix has figured that out with Beyond Stranger Things, hosted by Jim Rash (Community). More on the story and a sneak peak video of the show below.

The Little Hours movie review

The Little Hours
Written & Directed by Jeff Baena
Starring Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Dave Franco, Paul Reiser, Jemima Kirke, Paul Weitz
Gunpowder & Sky
Release date: June 30, 2017

When looking for inspiration for modern comedy, I know what you’re thinking… the 14th century! For The Little Hours, writer/director Jeff Baena turns to an odd source, Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron. Written in the late 1300s after the Bubonic Plague ripped Europe apart, The Decameron was a collection of novellas about ten young people living in a secluded villa. The atmosphere and period setting made me instinctively think of Monty Python and the Holy Grail while the tone of the comedy — sex-based and vulgar — brought to mind There’s Something About Mary and Superbad. Somehow these two angles come together to form an oddly unique film that is intriguing throughout and laugh out loud funny at times.

Whiplash

Whiplash
Directed by Damien Chazelle
Starring Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons, Paul Reiser, Melissa Benoist
Blu-ray | DVD
Sony Pictures Classics
Theatrical Release Date: October 10, 2014
Home Video Release Date: February 24, 2015

In a key scene in Whiplash, the ferociously passionate music teacher Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), who is at once intimidating, forceful, powerful, and unapologetic, tells Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller), the young, puckish stars-in-his-eyes wannabe-one-of-the-greats jazz drummer, that one of the worst things you can say to someone is “good job.” But with this film, which has been a critical darling paramount of some of the great films of all time in the modern age, director and writer Damien Chazelle has done much, much more than a good job. In fact, he’s done an eye-opening, jaw-dropping superb one.
