Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Banner

The first full trailer for this summer’s Michael Bay-produced and Jonathan Liebesman-directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has premiered online a few days following its unveiling at this year’s CinemaCon. You can watch it here below.

The clip is framed by narration from William Fichtner‘s lily-white Shredder, explaining to April O’Neill (Megan Fox) how the city has fallen into ruin and chaos and how he and her father tried to stem the rising tide of violence by creating their own heroes. Yes friends, Shredder had a hand in creating the Ninja Turtles.

All of my 80’s childhood cartoon loyalties revolved around Jem and Rainbow Brite who respectively saved the day with holographic earrings and a fancy Color Belt. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were dudes who hung out in sewers and fought gun-toting gang members with weapons like katanas. Thus, they were off my radar until my TMNT fanboy roommate tried to get me to watch the old cartoons with him. To perhaps stall the inevitable, I agreed to review this comic. Rarely do I say this, but “he was right.” Anthropomorphized and highly motivated turtles are pretty cool, and this issue is a great place to check out where the phenomenon began. A nostalgic gem, it certainly could not have been released at a better time. Fans are currently up in arms or at least reasonably concerned about Michael Bay’s upcoming film version, which promises to turn the classic characters into Adult Alien UnMutant Turtles.

The Rebooted ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Will Be Aliens, According To Michael Bay

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Looks like the title characters in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot will be getting their turtle power from a source other than green mutagen found in a New York City sewer.

At the recent 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront conference Michael Bay, who is producing the new film for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon through his Platinum Dunes production company, offered up his thoughts on what children who didn’t grow up devouring everything related to the weapon-wielding amphibious ass-kickers created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 can expect from the gestating reboot.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

It’s been almost two years since we reported that Michael Bay would be partnering with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon to produce a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie through his Platinum Dunes production company and that Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway would be writing the screenplay with an eye towards turning the movie into a franchise.

Now comes the news that Jonathan Liebesman, the director of last year’s Battle: Los Angeles and the upcoming Wrath of the Titans, is in talks to direct the reboot.

Screw it, it’s Wednesday and comics are out, and this is what we’re freaking looking forward to, bros. And we gotta tell ya, there’s a large amount of super collections, so get on it, and take your wallet. You might even need to sell a kidney because that’s what I’m doing. TMNT

IDW Publishing seems to be making a big splash at San Francisco’s WonderCon this weekend, and one of their big announcements was that they will be bringing back Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the world of comics this Summer, with an new series of comics and graphic novels based on the original series. The comics series will be just the first part of an on-going plan to return the Turtles to prominence. Nickelodeon actually bought the rights to the Turtles franchise last year for a cool $60 million and there are also plans for a new CGI show to air on Nickelodeon starting in late 2012.

Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes To Produce Live-Action ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

It’s being reported by Deadline Hollywood that Platinum Dunes, the studio behind the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street reboots, has been brought in to produce the new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie currently being developed.

Platinum Dunes is of course the company owned by Transformers and Armageddon director Michael Bay, as well as producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

In April of 2009, The Mirage Group made the announcement during the 25th anniversary celebration of Ninja Turtles that a brand new live-action movie was on the way. Mirage had brought us the decent (but just not the same) computer-animated TMNT before this, but nothing was more exciting than the thought of something closer to the original movies made in the early ’90s. Even better — it sounded as if this movie could just be the darker toned flick we’ve begged for over the years, based on Turtles creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman‘s original comics.

John Fusco Hired To Write New Live-Action ‘Ninja Turtles’ Script

Ninja Turtles

As we all know and adore, a new mostly live-action, semi-computer-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is on the way (Read: Brand New ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Movie Goes Green!). Now this movie has made it’s first official move, hiring John Fusco to pen the movie.

Fusco seems to be a pretty decent-fitting choice for the job with both action and martial arts-heavy films under his belt. He’s written movies like both Young Guns movies, Hidalgo with Viggo Mortensen, and the recent Jackie Chan and Jet Li flick, The Forbidden Kingdom. He’s also the man that was tapped for the impossible task of writing a Seven Samurai remake — though that one isn’t an official go yet.

New ‘TMNT’ Could Be A Live-Action/CGI Hybrid

The Movie God   |  @   |

Talks of a brand new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie have officially reached a point of chaos. First, co-creator Kevin Eastman claimed that many meetings had taken place about a new live-action movie. This claim was immediately shot down by writer Steve Murphy, who called it nonsense and untrue, which crushed all of our obvious excitement over the thought of a new live-action flick.

Now comes word from Peter Laird — the other creator behind the TMNT — in an interview with MTV, that in fact they are working on another movie. Laird says:

I have to say that I don’t know why Kevin was talking about something with which he has no involvement. The blurb he put on his website was very inaccurate. He has not been involved with any meetings in Northampton, nor any others related to a new “TMNT” movie, as far as I know. That being said, I can confirm that we have had several meetings with very interested people, and I think we are pretty close to making a deal. As owner of the “TMNT” property, I want to be the first to announce it at a time of my choosing.
