Rambo

Back in Summer 2009, Rambo V was officially greenlit by Nu Image/Millennium Films, the studio behind The Expendables, that would see franchise star Sylvester Stallone back behind the machine gun.

Since then, rumors and reports have surfaced periodically regarding the film’s plot and the possibility of it being a prequel. Also, at one point, Stallone said he wouldn’t be returning for a fifth Rambo movie.

Fearnet recently spoke with Conan The Barbarian screenwriter Sean Hood who told the site that he’s just finished the first draft on a fifth Rambo movie, which he called Rambo: Last Stand.

Double-Check That: ‘Rambo 5’ Now Has An Official Synopsis, New Info

Rambo V

On Saturday, we discovered that previous reports that Sylvester Stallone and a fifth Rambo movie would take place on the Mexican border were actually false, and that instead, he would be in the Pacific Northwest, working with an elite team to stop a bunch of experimental super-soldiers that were killing everyone. Now comes an official synopsis for the movie via AICN, and once again, things have changed a bit.

The movie is still being called Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, and it’s taking place North of the Arctic Circle. Instead of a bunch of super-soldiers, it looks like it will be a lot more like Predator, and only have one “half-human abomination” experiment that kills everything and is heading toward civilization. This is what Rambo and crew, including his twenty-two year old hunting partner, which will surely translate to a hot young face to help promote the flick.

Check That: ‘Rambo 5’ To Incorporate Sci-Fi, NOT Set At Mexican Border

Rambo V

Just this past Monday, it was confirmed that a fifth movie in the Rambo franchise was officially given the go-ahead (Read: ‘Rambo 5′ Receives A Not At All Shocking Greenlight). In the Variety report, it was announced that this time, John Rambo would be heading back to the United States, and would be fighting “human traffickers and drug lords” on the Mexican border while trying to rescue a kidnapped little girl. As it turns out, this was about as far from the truth as can be. Ain’t It Cool News‘ Harry Knowles was able to talk to Sylvester Stallone himself, who shared what was really going down at this sure-to-be-messy new party. As it turns out, the movie will actually be introducing a touch of science fiction this time around.

First and foremost, it appears that the movie will be titled Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, as can be seen in the very, very basic poster that was made and can be seen above (click to go big). If this poster came from anywhere but the direct source, you would absolutely think it was fake, and probably be pretty confused, but there it is. And as the sub-title insinuates, this time, Rambo will be part of the hunt, as opposed to being hunted himself.

Rambo

Right around the time that Sylvester Stallone was finishing new installments in his Rocky and Rambo franchises, it was made clear that more movies in each franchise was not completely out of the question. Some times has passed, Stallone is nearing the completion of his next flick, The Expendables, and it is being reported that Rambo 5 has indeed been greenlit.

Nu Image/Millennium Films, who also handled The Expendables, were the ones who gave the go-ahead to this new Rambo project. The movie’s premise looks to take John Rambo away from the jungles and toward the United States/Mexico border, where he will take on human being traffickers and drug lords while attempting to rescue a kidnapped little girl.
