The Purge TV show

The Purge has gone on three bloody rampages in the past decade, all the while teaching us a valuable lesson about the disenfranchised. And with a prequel set for release, you’d think we learn what we needed to know. In a dystopian American future – not too far from our own – an annual national civic tradition called “The Purge.” For 12 hours each year all crime is legal, including murder.

Now the franchise that brought terror and thought-provoking politics to the big screen, will be hitting television for a 10-episode run. Check out the first trailer for The Purge TV series here below.

This week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 3.16 “Paradise Lost,” S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra continue along their separate paths towards a final confrontation at the end of the season. While there are certainly some highlights (which I’ll cover in S.H.I.E.L.D.ed Observations below), this episode is very aptly named and is just bad as a whole.

And to cover why it’s so bad, I’d like to share with you my top five reasons in all their spoilery glory.

Is losing three lives worth saving thousands? Director Blomfeld (Reed Diamond) would say so. There is a terrorist group, Memento Mori, planning something big and Hawk-Eye, the prized “predictive policing” program isn’t cutting it. His plan is to reinstate pre-crime, and lock the pre-cogs back in a bigger, better milkbath. He knows they’re out there; they nearly caught Agatha (Laura Regan) and with Lt. Blake (Wilmer Valderrama) now in the know about Dash’s real identity, it seems only a matter of time before Agatha’s vision comes true.

Spoilers for the finale below.

Now the circle of those in the know Dash and his partnership with Detective Vega (Meagan Good) is growing. Already Akeela (Li Jun Li) and Wally (Daniel London) are in. With Agatha (Laura Regan) seeing visions of the siblings back in the pre-crime milkbath, who knows where Blake’s loyalties will inevitably lie.

On the last episode of Minority Report, Arthur’s underworld tidings got Dash (Stark Sands) in hot water, and landed him one finger short… until it was futuristically reattached. Arthur (Nick Zano) had some flirty moments with Vega (Meagan Good), even though she was pissed at him. The problem is that Agatha (Laura Regan) has been having visions of Vega betraying them, and them ending up back in the pre-cog milkbath. This week will go a long way towards finding out if that is the reality, as Lt. Blake (Wilmer Valderrama) finds out the truth about Dash.

Last week on Minority Report, we delved into the pre-cogs’ post pre-crime past on the island of Fiddler’s Neck. Agatha (Laura Regan) is still seeing vision of betrayal where her and her psychic twin brothers end up back in a government milkbath. Dash (Stark Sands) is convinced Detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good) will never turn on him, while the wildcard here is Arthur (Nick Zano) whose allegiance appears up for bids most of the time. It’s Arthur who creates the big problems on this week’s episode. There is also some shady behind the stage dealings going on. Lt. Blake (Wilmer Valderrama) is offered a DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) job and his vetting process may give away Dash’s involvement in the success of Hawk-Eye, the new predictive policing program.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve delved deeper in the mindsets of the our main characters. First Dash (Stark Sands) fell in love with a murder suspect and had to talk her down; last week Lara Vega (Meagan Good) came face to face with her dad’s killer and barely kept things under control. This week we get a peek into the mysterious island where the pre-cog siblings grew up after pre-crime was ended. Agatha (Laura Regan) still lives on Fiddler’s Neck Island, away from the chaos of city life. Arthur (Nick Zano) meanwhile has been an uneasy accomplice to Dash and Vega in helping prevent murders. When Agatha gets a vision of her old flame’s daughter dying, she calls in reinforcement… which is bit strange being as she’s been trying to convince her brothers that Vega is working against them.

“You think Agatha is shaken up now… just wait” Arthur warns Dash about Vega’s involvement.

Season 1 Episode 10: “Cycles”
Directed by Tim Hunter
Written by Chad Hodge & The Duffer Brothers
Created by Chad Hodge
Starring Matt Dillion, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Melissa Leo, Hope Davis, Reed Diamond, Charlie Tahan
FOX
Air Date: Thursday, July 23rd, 2015, 9:00pm

The whole season has hinged on one simple question; what is Wayward Pines? The all-too-perfect small Idaho town is full of surveillance, and the occasional “reckoning” of its dissidents. It’s protected by an electrified fence which keeps its citizens trapped or secure, depending on your point of view. The truth revealed is Wayward Pines is the last vestige of humanity, and it’s actually the year 4028. Humans were mutated into Abbies (monstrous vampire looking creatures) and David Pilcher (Toby Jones) recruited followers to join his “ark,” and were kept alive through cryogenics. When Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) refuses to follow orders and execute Kate (Carla Gugino), he instead tells the whole town the truth about Pilcher, the surveillance, and the Abbies. Pilcher sees the writing on the wall for his town, and shuts down to power to everything, including the fences.

Unfortunately, the people closest to him, his wife Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon) and his former partner/love interest Kate (Carla Gugino), think he’s gone insane or was brainwashed by Wayward Pines founder, David Pilcher (Toby Jones). Air Date: Thursday, July 9th, 2015, 9:00pm

Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) has undergone a fairly interesting character transformation in the past few episodes of Wayward Pines. He was possessed with getting out of the creepy town, murdered Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) and climbed a damn mountain all looking for a way out. What he found was “the truth”, told by scientist/inventor/philanthropist David Pilcher (Toby Jones). It’s actually the year 4028, and humans have mutated into monstrous creatures called “Abbys”. Wayward Pines is all humanity has left, saved via cryogenic sleep by Pilcher and company. Now Ethan has become their new avatar; the new sheriff who must deal with this secret while preventing others from following his initial lead to escape. The leader of that underground rebellion was his former partner and flame Kate (Carla Gugino). Last week’s episode ended with the bomb that was supposed to blow the fence detonating early and leaving Ethan’s son in bad shape.
