The Mandalorian Star Wars

The third day of Star Wars Celebration brought us our first look at Disney+’s The Mandalorian. From The Jungle Book and Iron Man director Jon Favreau, the first ever live-action Star Wars TV show will “follow the travels of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic…” Though that seemed a bit vague at the time, we knew it would follow the title character and the field of bounty hunting.

So Favreau, Dave Filoni, and castmembers Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, and Carl Weathers took to the stage to talk about the inspiration, their approach to the show, and talk about some of the characters that we will see. Check it out here below.

The Mandalorian Star Wars

Rumors surrounding the casting of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, the studio’s first live-action Star Wars series, have been circulating for the past few weeks. Pedro Pascal was named as the titular lone gunfighter who “travels to the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” And now, there is confirmation.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Pascal will be playing as that lone gunfighter. And he won’t be alone. He will be joined by the already confirmed Gina Carano (Deadpool) and Nick Nolte (Affliction). Additionally, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) will be joining the cast as well. More on the report, below.

The Flash

Just as things were moving forward with the DCEU, The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, has hit another bump in the road. Earlier this year, Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa signed on to direct the standalone film based on the Scarlet Speedster, replacing Seth Grahame-Smith, who had departed in April. In fact, the director was featured with his fellow DCEU directors at the Warner Bros. panel at the San Diego Comic-Con just this year. Now comes word that Famuyiwa is also stepping away from the project, and for the exact same reasons that made Grahame-Smith leave.

More on the story below.

Kiersey Clemons cast in The Flash

In the past few days, you may have heard about what Warner Bros has planned for the DCEU. That Justice League tease finally gave us a proper introduction to The Flash, played by Ezra Miller. As excited as we are for that team-up film, seeing Miller as Allen was a pure delight and has restored my confidence that the DCEU can stand side-by-side with their Marvel Studio competitors. While the Scarlet Speedster’s solo film, The Flash, which will be directed by Dope‘s Rick Famuyiwa, is still years away from release, we are getting a look at the diverse cast. A new report confirms that there will be a small reunion of sorts as Dope star Kiersey Clemons will play Iris West in the film.

More on the story below.

The Flash

It was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. found a new someone to replace Seth Grahame-Smith as director of The Flash, starring Ezra Miller. The two parted ways due to creative differences but some say it was his inexperience directing films. Handing off a blockbuster film to a first-time director would have been too risky.

And now there are new reports that the studio has settled on Dope director Rick Famuyiwa to helm the film about the Scarlet Speedster of Central City. More on the story below.

In Dope, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is a teenager trying to survive in Inglewood while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him on an adventure, that could allow him to go from being a geek to becoming “dope.”

Written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood), Dope was a critically acclaimed audience favorite at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It’s a smart, ambitious comedy-drama that’s equal parts Go, Superbad, and Kid and Play’s House Party, with a touch of John Hughes.

Dope Movie Image

Rick Famuyiwa‘s Dope was one of the best films to come out of the Sundance Film Festival this year. Critics raved over how the energetic film infused classic hip-hop beats and ’90s geek nostalgia, and how it had a John Hughes-feel to it. Open Road obtained the rights in just a matter of days after the film’s debut at the festival, and scheduled it for a summer release.

Starring Shameik Moore (Incredible Crew, The Watsons Go to Birmingham) Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), and Kiersey Clemons (Eye Candy, Shake It Up), Dope centers on a group of high school kids from Inglewood, CA, who must find a way to recoup money from a drug deal gone wrong or get killed.

Now a teaser trailer for the movie has appeared online, and it gives us a first look at the style, energy, music, and nostalgia you will experience while watching the film. Hit the jump to check it out.
