Ghostbusters original film

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the theatrical release of Ghostbusters, the 1984 blockbuster comedy starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson as the title paranormal investigators. Now, Fathom Events and Sony Pictures are bringing the film back to theaters nationwide for 2 days only this October.

Theaters nationwide will be showing the film on Sunday, October 6 and Thursday, October 10, 2019, and will include a screening of an introduction with newly unearthed and rarely seen alternate takes.

Spaceballs

I don’t watch sitcoms much these days. I have enough trouble keeping up with the things I do watch, and today’s sitcoms rarely look worth checking out. But there are a few which do pique my interest every now and then, and I make sure to keep an eye on them so that, if they don’t get canceled too soon, I can attempt a binge or two down the road. One such show is The Goldbergs, which is appealing simply for the ’80s nostalgia. I’ve yet to watch an episode yet but that changes soon, as tonight’s episode features a very special guest, the great Rick Moranis, in a very rare performance.

Moranis is set to reprise his role as Dark Helmet from the 1987 Mel Brooks Star Wars parody Spaceballs in the latest episode of The Goldbergs, fittingly titled “Spaceballs.”

Thirty years ago, I was a rambunctious 2-year-old who only knew Sesame Street and PBS. Thirty years later, I’m a crazed movie geek with an overflowing DVD collection who spouts movie lines at will. One of the quintessential films that my friends and I grew up watching, re-watching, and quoting was Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman‘s comedy of bungling scientists and real-life spooks in NYC. Imagine the euphoria upon finding that we thirtysomethings now have a chance to view one of our favorites in theaters for the first time!

To commemorate the 30-year anniversary of its debut in the Summer of 1984, Ghostbusters is back in theaters starting today for ONE WEEK ONLY! Who you gonna call?

‘Little Shop Of Horrors’ Coming To Blu-ray This Fall With Original Ending Restored

Little Shop of Horrors

This Fall, the 1986 Little Shop of Horrors get the Blu-ray Book Pack treatment, with a Director’s Cut edition which will include a 20-minute restored alternate ending and 40-page booklet.

Little Shop of Horrors began life as a horror-comedy that was shot in three days by director and B-movie legend Roger Corman and released in 1960. More than two decades it was brought back to life as an off-Broadway stage musical that ran for over 2,200 performances and at the time was the highest-grossing off-Broadway production ever produced. In 1986, movie producer and music mogul David Geffen took Little Shop of Horrors back to the big screen in a $25 million musical extravaganza directed by legendary Muppet performer and filmmaker Frank Oz and starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene (who also starred in the off-Broadway show), Steve Martin, Vincent Gardenia, James Belushi, John Candy, and Bill Murray in an inspired cameo based on Jack Nicholson‘s performance in the 1960 original. It went on to become one of the year’s big hits in theaters and on home video, and at the following year’s Academy Awards the movie earned two nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song. Unfortunately the film lost in both categories to Aliens and Top Gun, respectively.

‘Ghostbusters 3’ Will Be Directed By None Other Than Ivan Reitman!

Ghostbusters 3

For as long as we’ve known about the possibility of Ghostbusters 3 happening, we’ve wondered whether original director Ivan Reitman would return to helm the trilogy maker. It’s been loosely confirmed many times that all of the original cast members would be returning though people like Rick Moranis and Annie Potts are still unknowns. And on top of that, writer/star Harold Ramis has already claimed that a 2011 release was happening.

Well folks, it wasn’t in any type of big or flashy unveiling, but while speaking to MTV on the red carpet for the National Board of Review in NYC, Reitman confirmed that he would indeed be directing the movie. Reitman explained that a draft was in the bank and that a second was being worked on right now, but didn’t say much when asked if he was in fact directing; he simply said “Yes” and that he “hopes to start shooting in this next year,” which is more than enough for us to be excited. Ivan hasn’t had the best of films recently, and he needs to slam dunk one here to keep up with his son Jason Reitman, who at the moment can do no wrong in the eyes of many.
