A couple of weeks back we saw the first in a trio of Blade Runner 2049 prequel shorts, titled “2036: Nexus Dawn,” which followed Jared Leto‘s character as he sought a repeal of the prohibition placed on replicants.

Now the second prequel short, titled “2048: Nowhere to Run,” has been released. It follows Dave Bautista‘s character, a replicant named Sapper Morton, as he tries to keep a low profile.

Jared Leto in Blade Runner 2049 Prequel Short "2036: Nexus Dawn"

Before Blade Runner 2049 arrives in theaters in just a little over one month from now, some prequel short films are being released. These shorts will help fill in the gap between the events of Ridley Scott‘s original Blade Runner, which was set in the year 2019, and the new movie, which of course is set in 2049.

The first short, which is directed by Ridley’s son Luke Scott, has now been released online. It’s titled “2036: Nexus Dawn,” and sees Jared Leto‘s character, Niander Wallace, as he aims to see a prohibition on replicants repealed.

You can read a synopsis for Blade Runner 2049 and watch the prequel short below.

SDCC 2017 Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049 is the sequel to Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi cult classic. Because the first film started in 2019, the panel projected a timeline of events that has happened in between the first film and now. A new line of replicants have been built, one of them being played by Dave Bautista‘s character, and while all of that exposition was nice. It was Jared Leto‘s entrance that really stole the show. He was there as a hologram. How could anyone beat that?

Check out more on their SDCC 2017 panel below.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ Trailer: There’s More To This Futuristic Mystery

Blade Runner 2049

Warner Bros. has just unveiled the newest trailer for Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049, and it asks more questions than it answers. The timing of all of this seems a bit odd considering that WB has a panel at this weekend’s SDCC, but who am I to complain about a brand new trailer for one of the most anticipated films of the year. Plus that just leaves more time for some other WB films that we are interested in.

But that is beside the point. Here we see a few more details about Officer K’s (Ryan Gosling) case and why he must go out of his way to look into the past to find an aged Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford). More on the trailer below.

Movie Review: Alien: Covenant

Alien Covenant poster

Alien: Covenant
Director: Ridley Scott
Screenwriter: John Logan and Dante Harper
Cast: Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Carmen Ejogo, Demián Bichir
Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Rated PG-13 | 122 Minutes
Release Date: May 19, 2017

The truth is that while I liked Alien: Covenant, I didn’t love it. What’s tragic, aside for the future the prequel sets humanity up for, is that all it would have taken to make the film phenomenal was some small tweaks and changes.

Alien: Covenant lacks the same emotional heights sci-fi fans associate with Ridley Scott’s film of 1979 or James Cameron’s 1986 sequel, though it’s not without merit. Chief among the complaints is that the new film seems to sit on the franchise’s laurels rather than push it forward in the way Casino Royale did for James Bond or Logan did for X-Men. It’s been 38 years since the original Alien thriller, but this movie lacks some of the lauded learnings and innovations of modern science fiction cinema.

Alien: Covenant Xenomorph

Alien: Covenant, the newest chapter of the Alien film franchise will hit theaters in just a few short weeks. In that time we are likely to see a lot more clips and learn a little bit more about the franchise itself.

Among those things we are learning, director Ridley Scott admits that he made a few mistakes in Prometheus. Also, when the next film starts production. And that’s not all. Fox has also released a new clip, that just reinforces my absolute fear in the idea of facehuggers. Check it all out below.

Blade Runner 2049

At the end of last year we saw the first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi favorite Blade Runner, titled Blade Runner 2049. The first trailer was an announcement trailer, sharing some great shots from the movie with minimal dialogue.

Now Warner Bros. Pictures has released an official trailer for the movie, which is longer, includes a little more dialogue, and most importantly, lots and lots more great shots courtesy of director Denis Villeneuve, the great Roger Deakins‘ cinematography, and the rest of the crew who worked on the movie.

Phoenix Forgotten Trailer

A trailer has been released for Phoenix Forgotten, a found footage flick produced by Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott and his Scott Free Productions.

The movie follows a group of friends who set off to document some of the strange things happening after mysterious lights are spotted. It’s based on the real UFO sightings in the skies over Phoenix, Arizona back in 1997, known as the “Phoenix Lights.” The sightings involved two UFOs—one a massive V-shaped object moving across the sky silently, the other a set of lights which did not move—which were reported by thousands of people.

Ridley Scott Alien Covenant panel at SXSW 2017

It seems that despite the mixed review that 2012’s Prometheus endured, nearly everyone who is a fan of Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien is cautiously excited about his new film Alien: Covenant. There were glimmers of hope in the eyes of all who attended the short panel the acclaimed director participated in today at this year’s SXSW — hope that even though the film is the umpteenth installment of the series, that it’ll be worth the ticket price when it comes out in theaters later this year.
