Each and every week, I, “Are we still Groot?” Henchman 21 and “We are Groot!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of August 6, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Well, things have more or less gotten back to normal after SDCC madness, so it’s time to get back into the swing of things. You know what the deal is here. Comics are in stores. We point out some that we think you should buy. That’s how we do things around here. It’s The GoD List!

Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO Rocket Raccoon and Groot Statues

Last week, we got to see the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy recreated with LEGO, so we know how more fun the interconnecting building blocks can be when paired up with Marvel properties.

Marvel and LEGO teamed up once again to show off the LEGO creations for Guardians Of The Galaxy characters Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Marvel has released a time-lapse video of the process of creating these characters with LEGO. Watch the video here below.

The video contains a time-lapse of what was 80 builders working 300 hours to create the Rocket and Groot LEGO statues, which were on display for the film’s London premiere as well as at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Reminder: Help ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon Creator Bill Mantlo

Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) in Guardians of the Galaxy

This weekend saw the release of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, a fabulous movie that deserves much kudos. If you’ve seen the film, then you know its gun-toting, wise-cracking, talking raccoon, Rocket, steals the show. Who would have thought that a badass talking raccoon could be so endearing, but he is. And that’s thanks in part to the character’s co-creator Bill Mantlo.

Back in February, we wrote about Mantlo, who, in 1992, was tragically struck by a hit-and-run driver and suffered traumatic brain injury. Since the accident, Mantlo, who is also credited with creating Lady Deathstrike, Cloak & Dagger, and many more characters, has been living in a nursing home/rehabilitation facility, where he needs constant care. Being as the comics creator was a “work for hire” player, he’s not getting any of that big Marvel Cinematic Universe money*. So, I wanted to take the opportunity now to remind everyone that you can donate through PayPal to help with Mantlo’s very costly medical expenses.

Rocket Raccoon from

Chances are, you’ve seen the new trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and you probably noticed there’s a raccoon with the machine gun. Bill Mantlo co-created Rocket Raccoon in 1976, but since it was a work-for-hire project, he likely won’t see a dime from this big-budget comic book film.

In 1992, Mantlo was struck by a hit-and-run driver and suffered traumatic brain injury, and has been living in a nursing home/rehabilitation facility, and as you can imagine, this is costly. So, with the recently popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and the likelihood of Rocket Raccoon becoming an immediate kid-favorite, it’s a good time to bring everyone’s attention to Mantlo and his tragic plight. You can donate through PayPal to help with Mantlo’s medical expenses.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

On Tuesday Disney released the mammoth, 10-disc Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray set containing all six of Marvel Studio’s first blockbuster superhero adventures and a host of exclusive bonus features. The set also came with a special code that buyers could enter at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Mainframe website and view a video preview prepared by Marvel that offers some tantalizing glimpses at their upcoming Phase Two movies Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and their first Phase Three movie Ant-Man.

Last night some enterprising individuals posted the video online but Marvel and Disney quickly exercised their legal superpowers and had it pulled. Fortunately for us they were not able to pull down a host of still images from the preview that survived. Some of them we posted yesterday before we knew for sure they were legit, but now we have a ton more to share with you.

You can check them all out here below.
