Greatest American Hero Logo Banner

The Greatest American Hero, an ’80s television comedy created by Stephen J. Cannell about a high school teacher turned clumsy superhero, is set for a reboot on FOX, according to Deadline.

Their “street” cred also includes the highly successful The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street. Rodney Rothman, who co-wrote 22 Jump Street, will write the pilot and act as co-executive producer, alongside Cannell’s daughter, Tawnia McKiernan, whose television directing credits include episodes of Leverage, Grimm, Devious Maids, and Bones.

“Hey! Stop fuckin’ with Korean Jesus. He ain’t got time for yo problems! He’s busy… with Korean shit!” – Ice Cube, 21 Jump Street

I was pleasantly surprised, however, to discover that this revamp wasn’t a gritty, self-serious take like Michael Mann’s Miami Vice, but rather an uproarious action-comedy by the directing duo of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. And I certainly wasn’t expecting 21 Jump Street to be such a smart, self-reflexive satire of ’80s buddy cop flicks and teen movie tropes.
