Jurassic Park 3D Header

Jurassic Park is heading back into theaters early next year for a 3D re-release, because regular re-releases are just jurassic. Yeah, the film came out in 1993 and I didn’t get a chance to see it on the big screen, so watching it in 3D might not be so bad. Universal even has released a new trailer for the 3D re-release. Check it here out below.

That’s right Sam Neill, Richard Attenborough, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Joseph Mazzello, Ariana Richards, Wayne Knight, and Samuel L. Jackson are all returning to the big screen and in 3D. This means you get to relive the fear of dinosaurs chowing down on some of your favorite characters and some of the magical awe of seeing characters watch dinosaurs come to life. In fact, it’s limited run may be the only time you will get to see these dinosaurs on the big screen.

The Tomb Header

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are reuniting again for The Expendables 2, but if you’re worried that you’ll never get to see them share the same screen, then it’s time to put that aside, because they’ll be back for The Tomb. The film features Stallone as a man who designs heavily fortified prisons, only to be be wrongly put in one of his own. Schwarzenegger, a member of the prison, will help Stallone’s character bail out. The Mikael Håfström-directed film also stars Jim Caviezel, Vincent D’Onofrio, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, Amy Ryan, and 50 Cent. So before you watch The Expendables 2 this weekend, be sure to check out the first photo from The Tomb. Click below to see a full version of the photo.

There’s not a whole lot to get into about the photo itself, it is after all a teaser photo. Just Schwarzenegger and Stallone just hanging around in a prison. But the synopsis below gives some added anticipation to The Tomb, which does not have a release date at this time.

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger

Production for Mikael Håfström’s The Tomb, starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, has begun. Stallone stars as Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and imprisoned in a prison of his own design, and together with fellow inmate (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) must find out how to break out. The film also stars Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jim Caviezel, Amy Ryan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, and new addition Sam Neill.

Caviezel plays Hobbes, the warden of the Tomb, and Jones will play as Drake, the lead guard of the maximum-security prison. D’Onofrio plays Lester Clark, Breslin’s business partner and CEO of B&C Security, their independent security company hired by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to test the integrity of their maximum-security facilities nationwide. Ryan plays Abigail Ross, jack-of-all trades and one of Beslin’s closest confidants at B&C Security. Neil is cast as Dr. Emil Kaikev, the prison doctor embedded within the Tomb, who is sympathetic to Breslin’s plight.

When attempting to look critically at a piece of cinema like the Jurassic Park franchise, particularly the feature that started it off, a person from this writer’s generation must not only judge the features on singular scales of quality, but must also get past one huge roadblock: nostalgia.

I don’t know how many people who will read this are in a similar boat, but the Jurassic Park franchise is one of the first true-blue cinematic experience of this generation. Coming out in 1993, Jurassic Park played as the first real memorable cinematic experience for this generation, imprinting an eye of grandeur and spectacle on a group of people, so much so that the repercussions are still being felt today. Hell, it’s also a genuinely fantastic feature film.
