Spider-Man: Far From Home

Distributor: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Release Date: October 1, 2019

It’s a bit ironic that Sony and Disney would come to an agreement to share Spider-Man one more time just before the home release of Spider-Man: Far From Home. So there is a slight cause for celebration. The webslinger is a permanent fixture within Marvel Comics, but has had a hard time playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sandbox thanks to rights issues. Luckily, the two sides have been able to come an agreement. And as such, we have been given two, and now soon to be three, great standalone films.

Whatever happens next is still unclear, but fans can rest easy knowing that Spider-Man has at least spent some time in the MCU. Now Spider-Man: Far From Home, one of the better live-action Spider-Man films, is available for you to own on various home entertainment formats. Filled with a number of bonus features, this will be something every Marvel Studios and Spider-Man fan needs to have. Check out my review of the Blu-ray Edition here below.

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’: Spidey’s Latest Webspin Can Be Yours To Own On Digital, 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD Soon

Spider-Man: Far From Home

It was exciting to see how Spider-Man’s (Tom Holland) role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have expanded given the events of Avengers: Endgame, and the ending for Spider-Man: Far From Home told us that it would have been a significant one. However, given recent events, it seems like the Webhead’s stay is coming to an end. Even those at the top recognize how their relationship wasn’t meant to last. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t look back and enjoy the temporary arrangement.

And now, we can remember how Spidey’s presence in the MCU was everything that Spider-Man fans hoped it would be as Spider-Man: Far From Home makes its way to home video. More info on when the film will arrive on Digital, 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD, as well as which bonus features will be included, can be found below.

What If...?

Marvel Studios’ What If…?, which was announced back in March, is a brand new upcoming TV series that will be streamed exclusively on Disney+. The series will expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe in all sorts of new ways by posing the question of “what if?” This really isn’t anything new considering that Marvel Comics has an entire comic line dedicated to hypothetical and alternative stories, like “what if Thanos had joined the Avengers?” or “what if Captain America joined hydra?”

And now we have an idea of who will be involved. While at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared some news about the show, which includes announcing that Jeffery Wright will be voicing The Watcher, and various actors and actresses who have appeared in Marvel films who will be reprising their respective roles. More on all of this below.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home is the final chapter of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will see the Webslinger dealing with the fallout of Avengers: Endgame. Many of the founding Avengers have moved on one way or another, with some of them passing on the mantle and title to other heroes. And based on the latest trailer, Spidey will be one of those heroes. And before he can take on those responsibilities, he will be going on a European vacation.

Which is abruptly interrupted when Spidey (Tom Holland) is recruited by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to join Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), who just so happens to be from another universe. Together, they must deal with a new elemental threat that comes from Beck’s Earth. While many believed that Beck was using his Mysterio persona and knack for using Hollywood special effects, as well as smoke and mirrors, to pull off his crimes, director Jon Watts seems to hint that Beck isn’t the same person that we know him to be. Check out what he had to say below.

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Trailer: Marvel Opens The Door To The Multiverse

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Spider-Man (Tom Holland) will have a much bigger responsibility in the MCU than being a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man after the events of Avengers: Endgame. But before he can assume those responsibilities, he will go on vacation in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Which sounds fun. That is until Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) turns it into a world-saving mission. Now he must face new elemental threats that pose a danger to his world, and the only person that could help him is Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), a person with mystical powers who is very familiar with these creatures. Oh, did I mention that Beck hints that he is from another world?

Check out the new trailer here below.

‘Captain Marvel’ Interview: Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck Talk Marvel’s First Female Standalone and ’90s Nostalgia

Captain Marvel Header Image

Though there have been many strong female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel is the first time that Marvel Studios brings its fans a female superhero standalone film. The film sees Brie Larson play Carol Danvers, a highly skilled soldier of Star Force, an elite Kree peacekeeping force, separated from her troop when she crash lands on the planet Earth. Determined to reunite with her team, she soon discovers that she has a deep connection with this planet, and starts to search for the clues that could help unlock the memories of her mysterious past.

We were invited to attend the Captain Marvel press junket with our fellow journalists to talk to Larson, Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau), Jude Law (Yon Rogg), and Gemma Chan (Doctor Minerva). Additionally, MCU alum members Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson) also attended to chat about appearing in the upcoming film.

As much as this is a continuation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel holds so much more meaning for the studio. It’s Marvel Studios’ first female standalone film, and one with such an empowering message and a character who will be a symbol of inspiration to everyone, especially young girls. And that would not have been possible without directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who took their character-driven story approach to the upcoming film. Find out more about their leap from small films to Marvel Studio blockbuster tentpoles below.

Marvel Studios has come an incredibly long way since they released Iron Man back in 2008. Since then, they’ve firmly established their dominance at the box office and built a very secure fanbase while also expanding their Marvel Cinematic Universe. But even though there are strong female characters within this shared universe, none have actually led a standalone film. That is until now. Now, we have Captain Marvel, a supercharged film that takes flight from the moment it starts and never looks back.

It’s a truly visually stunning effort that has a lot of fun with some 90’s nostalgic vibes and nods to previous Marvel Studio efforts. But it’s something so much more at the same time. This film will be something that inspires and empowers females and young girls to fly higher, further, and faster than they ever did before. Check out my full review of the film here below.
