Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: Complete Series DVD Box Set

The Gold Box spotlight deal of the day over at Amazon today is the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: Complete Series DVD box set for only $31.99 (that’s 64% the list price of $89.97).

This 8-disc DVD box set contains 41 episodes spanning the 3 seasons of the Hanna-Barbera animated television series. There’s several bonus features in this set, including one on how the series began, as well as several with trivia featurettes about the show. The discs are housed in a limited edition Mystery Machine packaging.

The cartoon series, which ran from 1969-1973, centered on Scooby Doo, a dog who helped to solve mysteries along with his teenaged human companions, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred. The gang, traveling around in their groovy van, known The Mystery Machine, acted as amateur detectives, usually finding themselves in humorous predicaments as they try to uncover various criminal plots, typically of the “supernatural” nature. The reason the series title is asking Scooby-Doo “Where Are You!” is because the hound scares very easily – he and his pal Shaggy flee at the first sign of trouble and the Great Dane can only be coerced into returning with the promise of a “Scooby Snack.” In the end, the gang always solves the mystery and the villains are angered to have their nefarious plots foiled by “those meddling kids.”

Scooby-Doo Image

So you thought you’d heard it all, didn’t you? Read that headline one more time slowly, cross it off the list, and prepare for whatever wild and wacky new one surfaces tomorrow. It’s just another day in the world of geek.

It’s being reported that Warner Brothers is teaming up with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to make a movie. Considering that the WWE has their own film production company and has for quite a while now, this should come as no great surprise. But what may be a little surprising is what they’re actually making.

According to the reports, the two companies will be making a new animated Scooby-Doo movie, in which the big mystery will be set at the wrestling powerhouse’s biggest yearly event, Wrestlemania.

Brave and the Bold - Batman and Scooby-Doo

I’ve been eying this Scooby-Doo Meets Batman DVD for weeks since I saw the price drop to only $5. One of my favorite things about the Scooby-Doo cartoon series was all the famous guest stars, so it was a real treat for me when the Scooby gang teamed up with Batman and Robin back in the 1970s.

Now, they’ll all be teaming up again for an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, called “Batman’s Strangest Cases,” which will air on Friday, April 1 (6:30/5:30c) on Cartoon Network.

Paul Reubens (“Pee-wee Herman”) will host the episode, written by comics superstar Paul Dini, and will reprise his role as Bat-Mite.
