Tigers Are Not Afraid movie still

One of the best reviewed films of 2019 is now on AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder, as Tigers Are Not Afraid from writer/director Issa Lopez debuts. Premiering today, Thursday September 12, 2019, Tigers Are Not Afraid is an amazing mix of real world horror and the supernatural; a film of its kind not seen since Guillermo del Toro’s mesmerizing 2006 classic Pan’s Labyrinth. The film is available for Shudder subscribers in both the U.S., Canada, UK, and Ireland.

Japanese Zombie Comedy One Cut Of The Dead

One Cut of the Dead
Written, directed, and edited by Shinichiro Ueda
Cast: Takayuki Hamatsu, Mao, Harumi Shuhama, Yuzuki Akiyama, Kazuaki Nagaya, Manabu Hosoi
Shudder | Variance Films
96 minutes | Not Rated
U.S. Release: September 13, 2019 (NY/LA)

Dan O’Bannon’s The Return of the Living Dead from 1985 is the first major case of the “Zom-Com,” the blending of zombie horror and comedy. A seminal classic about punks battling the undead in a cemetery, it’s not hard to find influence for Edgar Wright’s genre redefining Shaun of the Dead from 2004. While the zom-com has become prevalent in recent years with films like Zombieland (2009) and this year’s The Dead Don’t Die from Jim Jarmusch, the best of the lot by a mile is Shinichiro Ueda’s One Cut of the Dead. The Japanese zom-com first premiered last year, but is making its American theatrical release later this month. The word of mouth has been off the charts and I’m happy to say that all the hype was real and One Cut of the Dead can take its place on the Mount Rushmore of zombie comedies.

Creepshow Halloween Horror Nights

Universal is killing it with their Halloween Horror Nights 2019 mazes. In addition to Ghostbusters and Killer Klowns from Outer Space joining Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and more, it’s now been announced that Creepshow will also be a part of the ’19 lineup.

A video has been released, seen below, which confirms that Creepshow is coming to Halloween Horror Nights 2019. And even more exciting, that its presence there will be inspired not only by the new Creepshow series coming to Shudder soon from Greg Nicotero (watch a trailer right here), but also the classic 1982 original movie written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero.

Shudder Visitations banner

Shudder is bringing it this June, scaring audiences with tons of new additions to their plentiful horror catalogue along with plenty of new original content. AMC’s streaming genre service never disappoints and there is tons to be excited about for horror fans as we inch toward the end of the school year and the start of summer.

The good news started last week when it became official that Joe Bob’s Last Drive-In would be returning for a second season. Joe Bob Briggs returned for a drive-in overnight marathon last summer that literally broke the internet and the fan support swelled from a one-off special, into holiday marathons and finally a full weekly double feature on Friday nights. While you are waiting for Joe Bob and Darcy the Mailgirl to return, Shudder is loading up the schedule in June.

The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs

It’s been a hell of a year for horror fans, especially for those who have fond memories of watching Joe Bob Briggs hosting MonsterVision and Joe Bob’s Drive-In Theater in the ’90s. That’s because Shudder brought him back for one last hurrah, a 24-hour horror marathon last summer. But fate had different plans. The marathon was hugely popular, and not only crashed the streaming service but also created its own little monster in the process. Its success led to a pair of holiday specials, “The Dinners of Death” for Thanksgiving and “A Very Joe Bob Christmas.”

Continuing to grow stronger from his resurrection popularity, Joe Bob was eventually given a brand new weekly series called The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. For the past eight weeks, fans have gathered to enjoy a new double feature each Friday night. But with the ninth and final episode set to air tomorrow night, those same fans have been left wondering if there would be any more to look forward to. And thankfully, we finally have an answer to that question as Shudder has given the series a second season.
