The GoD List Banner

Each and every week, I, “Freddy’s Revenge!” Henchman 21 and “Jason Lives!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of October 22, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Too busy making last minute additions to the haunted house to write a proper intro. Also, it’s kind of a slow week. Here’s what we like this week in the world of comics. Now don’t distract me while I peel some grapes to simulate eye balls and just read The GoD List!

The GoD List Banner

Each and every week, I, “So many books!” Henchman 21 and “Indeed!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of October 1, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Congratulations people, all of the comics are out this week. Every. Single. One of them. Okay, it’s not that bad, but there is an embarrassment of riches out this week, and if you want to buy all the good stuff, you may need a small loan. And I’m not going to be any help to you this week, because I am not about helping you trim down your comic buying list. Oh no, quite the opposite. I’m going to list a lot of cool stuff this week that is totally worth your time, so get ready. It’s rapid fire GoD List time!

Fox Wants To Trade Marvel The Silver Surfer and Galactus For An Extension On ‘Daredevil’

Daredevil: Born Again Reboot

Up until last year, 20th Century Fox had been for the better part of the past decade at the receiving end of an unstoppable volley of vitriol over the increasingly shoddy cinematic treatment the studio gave to their three vaunted Marvel Comics properties: Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and Daredevil. Then last summer they released the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men: First Class, which earned critical praise and a worldwide gross of more than $350 million – not a bad total considering the movie’s lack of bankable names (unless you count Kevin Bacon) and a coherent marketing strategy. First Class clearly proved that the studio was prepared to follow the example of Marvel Studios in how they develop and execute their superhero blockbusters, attaching talented writers and directors to make the features and making casting decisions not based primarily on demographic appeal.

In addition to the now in-production The Wolverine, Fox has a First Class sequel going before the cameras next year for a summer 2014 release that will be based on the popular and influential Days of Future Past from the original Uncanny X-Men comic series, as well as a reboot of The Fantastic Four happening with Josh Trank, who made his directing debut with this year’s wonderful found-footage superhero movie Chronicle, calling the shots behind the camera. The studio has been attempting to get a new Daredevil movie off the ground for a while now, but long-attached director David Slade (30 Days of Night) departed the project last month. This does not bode well for Fox as their option on the Daredevil character expires on October 10 of this year unless cameras are rolling on the new movie by then.

Get Your First Look At The New ‘Silver Surfer’!

Silver Surfer Preview 4

The Silver Surfer is one of those characters that has had trouble carrying his own series. He’s a fantastic guest star in other comics but he just hasn’t found enough popularity to carry a full series in a long time. J. Michael Straczynski killed the tortured ex-herald of Galactus off in a dramatic short run called Requiem and he was entertaining in the Annihilation event too. The Surfer may be one of those characters that’s just best suited to short stories and guest appearances.

Marvel is Surfing With The Alien once more with a 5-issue story from New York Times bestselling author Greg Pak and artist Stephen Segovia. In this story the wielder of the power cosmic returns to Earth and will face the High Evolutionary. As always Marvel is promising a game changing epic story.

Here are some early images from the upcoming story, which begins in February with Silver Surfer #1!

Fantastic4

Fantastic Four is a 2005 movie that starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis and was followed by the 2007 sequel 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer — both of which made fairly large amounts of money, but weren’t loved by critics. Many seemed to think the properties were a little too cheesy, and rumors began to swirl about a possible reboot only a few years after the first movies were produced. This rumor is now a reality, as just on the heels of the massive Disney acquisition of Marvel Studios, Fox has officially announced their plans to give the Fantastic Four franchise a makeover.

Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, and I Am Legend writer Akiva Goldsman has been brought in to oversee the reboot. This is an interesting move — as you can see, Goldsman’s track record with superheroes and summer blockbusters is a little rocky, but on the other end of the spectrum, he has also co-written Oscar winners and nominees like A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man. No specifics on how much his work as an “overseer” might maneuver the final product.
