John Lasseter

There has been a major backlash to former Disney•Pixar and Walt Disney Studios Animation head John Lasseter being hired to oversee Skydance Animation. Many have expressed their outrage saying that he has shown little to no remorse about his past indiscretions, which include multiple allegations of sexual assault.

So in order to curb any anxieties or distress his presence may have, the studio held a town hall where Lasseter fielded blunt questions about his previous “missteps,” admitting to the wrongdoing, and committing himself to prove he has reformed. More on the report, below.

That’s right, Cameron wants to see a new Terminator trilogy. More on the story below.

World War Z Image

One of the major reasons why Paramount was forced to pull World War Z 2 off its release schedule, was because the film never went into production in the first place. The sequel to the sleeper hit could never lock down a director, thus stalling the film, which eventually led up to what happened earlier this week.

After director J.A. Bayona departed from the film, Se7en, Fight Club, and Gone Girl director David Fincher was named as a possible replacement. He’s worked with Brad Pitt twice before, so the idea makes plenty of sense. Well, it looks like Fincher is still very much interested in the gig. Find out more on the story below.

Brad Pitt in World War Z

From the news you were least expecting to read this week department, it’s being reported that two-time Academy Award nominee David Fincher is in talks to direct the zombie blockbuster sequel World War Z 2.

The original starred and was produced by Brad Pitt, who is set to return for the sequel. Pitt has worked with Fincher three times in the past (Seven, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), which led him to reach out to Fincher after previously attached director J.A. Bayona departed in order to direct the Jurassic World sequel. The report states that it’s Pitt, Paramount, and Skydance, who are talking to Fincher about taking the job.

Tom Cruise and Doug Liman

Something must have clicked between Tom Cruise and Doug Liman because the two are set to reunite for a sci-fi film called Luna Park. The film will mark the third time that the pair have worked together since 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow.

No word yet on the status of that proposed Edge of Tomorrow 2, but if it worked the first time, then it should work just as well the second time around. More on the project below.

Terminator Genisys Header Image

Terminator Genisys was supposed to be the film to help revive the franchise into the mega-blockbuster one that it was known for. But nearly three weeks after its release, the film continues to struggle at the domestic box office, and is only faring well overseas. The fifth installment in the franchise has grossed $278 million at the box office. But when taking into account the $155 million production budget, and the promotional budget, it would seem that Terminator Genisys is just another disaster for the franchise and the studio.

Paramount has scheduled two Terminator sequels to be released in 2017 and 2018, but there is a new report saying that the future of the franchise is uncertain. More on the story below.

Justin Lin

After directing four of the seven Fast and Furious films and two episodes of HBO’s True Detective, Justin Lin will now be working on helming Star Trek 3. Much of the plot of the film, written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, has been a secret, though there are rumors that it could be Enterprise’s five-year mission.

We won’t know much about the film for quite a while, but Lin, who was at the TCL Chinese Theater to place his hands on cement, was able to talk a little bit about the film. Check out what he had to say below.

Terminator: Genesis no longer financed by Annapurna Pictures

This was always an odd pairing. When the Terminator property was up for grabs, a variety of studios were vying to purchase the name of the very lucrative franchise, namely Annapurna Pictures and Lionsgate. Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Pictures ended up beating Lionsgate for the project and soon developed a partnership with Paramount, who would help finance the project with Annapurna. They even got some of the roles cast for Terminator: Genesis. Game Of ThronesEmilia Clarke got the role of Sarah Connor, while Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke is in talks to play John Connor.

Now comes word that Annapurna Pictures will no longer a co-financer of the project. Hit the jump to see who will help finance the project.

Brad Pitt in World War Z

With all that has happened to Marc Forster’s adaptation of Max BrooksWorld War Z, you might think that the zombie apocalypse actually happened. For one thing, the film, which stars Brad Pitt, went through many rewrites and reshoot, by the time the film actually entered the extensive reshooting phase, which forced the film to push back its original release date, many deemed the film dead on arrival.

So a new trailer has arrived and you can judge for yourself if the film was worth the wait, but from what I have been hearing, the film is a complete departure from the Brooks’ novel, and that is sure to upset fans of the book. Check it out below.
