True Blood

HBO’s True Blood series was a phenomenal hit by any measurement. Based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris, they follow the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse, a telepath in Louisiana who possesses an extraordinary lack of self-preservation. Constantly in danger, she aligns herself with and against supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves, all the while seeking to find her place in the world. Sookie, played by Anna Paquin in all seven seasons, finally seems to find herself living a normal life after the end of the final season. But fans have continued to clamor for more. Will HBO ever deliver?

Dead Reckoning

With the 11th Southern Vampire Mysteries book, Dead Reckoning, arriving this May, author Charlaine Harris is starting to think about putting an end to the series, which spawned the popular HBO television series True Blood.

In a recent interview with Hero Complex, Harris confessed that the property has taken over her life and that she’ll probably only do two more books in the series, which is also referred to as the Sookie Stackhouse or True Blood series.

“Truthfully, the next two books will probably be the last two books in the series,” Harris said last week. “I still love Sookie, but I’m beginning to want to write something else, and Sookie’s kind of taken over my life. I was able to write other things for the first few years I was involved in Sookie, but then after the start of the television show she took over so much of my time because of my increased publicity obligations that it’s been very hard to write other things, and I really need to do that.”

Deal: ‘True Blood’ Season 1 For $12

True BloodTrue Blood: The Complete First Season DVD is on sale right now at Amazon for only $12 (that’s 80% off the list price of $59.99). The Blu-ray has also been marked down to only $22.99 (that’s 71% off the list price of $79.98).

Also, Season 2 DVD is on sale for $37.99 (37% off the list price of $59.99), while the Season 2 Blu-ray has been reduced to $45.99 (42% off the list price of $79.98).

I’m not sure how long these prices will last, so if you’ve had your eye on any of these DVDs/Blu-rays, or had planned on getting this as a gift for someone, then I suggest you grab it now. I can’t imagine the prices dropping any lower than this for Season 1 (and probably not for Season 2 either).

True Blood is an hour-long drama on HBO, which stars Anna Paquin as mind-reading waitress Sookie Stackhouse and Stephen Moyer as her vampire lover Bill Compton. The show is based on the Southern Vampire books by Charlaine Harris.

I didn’t start watching the show until after the third season began, but once I jumped on, I was immediately hooked. I think I paid about $40 for Season 1, so for $12 for 12 episodes, you really can’t go wrong.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray Editions for Season 1 and 2 are part of Amazon’s “Buy This DVD and Watch it Instantly” program. So, with the purchase of either editions, you get to start watching the show instantly through their Video On Demand service while you wait for your physical copy to arrive (more details below).

Geek Discussion: ‘True Blood’ Season 3 Finale: What Did You Think?

True Blood Season 3 finaleGreetings vamplings, tis I, Cruechik, back once again to discuss my favorite undead creatures. This time, it’s the vamps of True Blood, which after two long weeks of waiting, finally aired the finale of season 3 tonight.

Warning: If you haven’t seen Season 3 of True Blood, there be SPOILERS.

True Blood Season 3 saw the introduction of all kinds of “˜supes including werewolves — most importantly the drool-inducing Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello); fairies; and crazy inbred werepanthers. Our heroine, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her favorite (or is he”¦hmm”¦?) vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) have had a series of skirmishes this season, and at the end of last epi’s cliffie, it once again appeared the part fae part human Sookie might not survive. Of more concern to me was whether or not VILF Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) would meet the true death. It didn’t look too good for Eric, who was out in the daylight frying like a catfish in a cast iron pan, handcuffed to insane “I carry my dead lover’s remains around in a candy jar” vamp king, Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare).

Week of Geek: San Diego Comic Con International 2010

True BloodAt least one woman in every row of the crowded (4,500 capacity) ballroom was wearing a Merlotte’s Bar & Grill t-shirt at the True Blood panel at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, which featured nearly the entire cast of the HBO hit vampire drama.

Show creator Alan Ball kicked off the panel with a special Comic-Con preview reel before having the cast — including Joe Manganiello (Alcide), Kristin Bauer (Pam), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), Denis O’Hare (Russell), Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte), Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette), Rutina Wesley (Tara), Stephen Moyer (Bill), and Anna Paquin (Sookie) — come on stage to talk shop about the huge response this season.

A lot of ground covered but some of the highlights include: Alan Ball has never seen/read Twilight; novelist Charlaine Harris said she plans to do 13 Sookie Stackhouse books that may or may not mirror the story that happens in the television show; and Snoop Dogg really is a fan of True Blood and scheduling has prevented him from making a guest appearance in the past. [READ: Snoop Dogg Really Likes HBO’s ‘True Blood’]

There’s also an explicit description of how Moyer filmed the sex scene in which he twists his former vampire lover’s head around while… well you get the point.

Check out the video coverage below for more details on what to expect from the future of True Blood
