Ellie Gall Stargate Origins

Stargate Origins has officially begun production on its 10-episode series and has cast a lead actress. Ellie Gall will play the role of Catherine Langford, the woman who discovered the Stargate, as depicted in past films and television series.

The series is being produced in conjunction with New Form and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). As noted in our story about Geeks of Doom’s exclusive demo at New York Comic Con, the show will air on the new digital platform, Stargate Command, later this year.

Dark Matter Header

A few weeks back, I wrote up an article about a new television series called Dark Matter, from Joseph Mallozzi (Executive Producer of Stargate SG1, Atlantis, and Universe). Mallozzi began offering hints that one of his projects was inching its way toward the development stage awhile back. Having read his Dark Matter graphic novel, I was really hoping that the collected comic series would be the show he’d been teasing. When it was finally announced that Dark Matter was green-lit by Syfy for a 13 episode season, I was thrilled.

It’s with great honor that I present to you an interview with Joseph Mallozzi. Check out the interview below!

State of Syn Web Series

It’s a Stargate: Atlantis reunion! Jewel Staite (Stargate‘s Jennifer Keller), David Hewlett (Stargate‘s Rodney McKay), and Rainbow Francks (Stargate‘s Aiden Ford) have all assumed major roles on a new 3D web comic series titled State of Syn. Additionally, fans will be happy to hear the voice of Torri Higginson (Stargate‘s Elizabeth Weir) in the opening narration of each webisode.

This science fiction web drama created by Daniel Dales and Jarett Sherman, features a combination of voice-overs, photography, and comic still drawing and animation. Directed by Jed Weintrob, State of Syn plays out like a live comic in approximately five-minute segments; similar in length to a single issue. The images serve as moving panels, transporting the viewer from one scene to the next. Adding to cross-platform element of the show, the fans can also get involved with an “interactive companion game for IOS and Android devices.”

Curious? See the first two episodes for yourself and read a State of Syn’s teaser description below.

Major Davis Returns to ‘Stargate’

StargateThis is the epitome of what we call cult reporting. I know that most of you do not give a rat’s ass for this news, but for some of us, this is really kind of exciting.

For anyone who has spent any amount of time watching Stargate, you will probably have come across the character Major Davis. A liaison from the Pentagon, the character was portrayed by Colin Cunningham, and became a very popular character, despite being nothing more than a recurring guest star.

However, according to GateWorld, Cunningham will be returning to the Stargate franchise for the series finale of Stargate Atlantis, which is scheduled to air in January 2009.

‘Stargate’ Down, then Back Up Again

sgu-pagelogoNo, I’m not referring to some technical glitch, but simply the past few days in the Stargate universe (wait for the pun). Last Thursday, we reported (on my birthday of all days!) that Stargate Atlantis had been canceled. SCI FI Channel also announced that they would be making a tele-movie, but still, one of my favorite series was cancelled.

One of the benefits of that though, was the opening for Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis to begin work on the third Stargate series.

And it was announced late last week, that SCI FI Channel and MGM Television Entertainment had reached an agreement to begin production on Stargate Universe (pun achieved!).

‘Stargate Atlantis’ TV Series Cancelled

AtlantisWe knew this day would come, and the SCI FI Channel has officially announced that Stargate Atlantis is airing its fifth and final season.

However, all is not lost for diehard fans of Atlantis, with SCI FI similarly announcing that a 2-hour Atlantis movie would also be coming our way in 2009.

The Stargate franchise has done well over the past decade. Stargate SG1 ran for a total of 10 seasons before quitting and making two direct-to-DVD movies, which have done well themselves. So they know what it is they are doing. And with an Atlantis movie to continue the story, we’ll be getting to see our characters still.
