Spirited Away Film Still 06

One of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki‘s many Studio Ghibli animated classics, Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi), which won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, is set to return to theaters soon.

It’s been announced that the film will be returning to cinemas in celebration of its 15th anniversary. There will be two screenings. The first is on December 4th, and that one will be the English dubbed version. The second is on December 5th, and will be the original Japanese version with English subtitles. Both will also include a short film that’s never been released in North America.

You can find all the info on the screenings below.

‘The Red Turtle’ Trailer: The Beauty Of Studio Ghibli With The Sound Of Silence

The Red Turtle header image

A film that has been literally making waves in its film festival run is Studio Ghibli’s The Red Turtle. It won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and won over audiences at TIFF, and soon will be making its way to the states where it will be shown at Fantastic Fest, where I’m sure it will be just as well-received.

But for a film that lacks dialogue makes up in everything else. That’s because British animator Michaël Dudok de Wit‘s film doesn’t have any dialogue, and explores the circle of life through the beauty of simplicity and animation. Check out the full trailer below.

I’ve long been a fan of Disney films. They have a ridiculously spectacular track record, both in quality and sales. So why then would Disney reach out to a Japanese creator for access to that director’s catalog of animated works? Well, when that person happens to be Hayao Miyazaki it all becomes clear. Arguably the greatest animator to ever breathe, he has been celebrated the world over. And one work of his stands out even among the masterpieces he has brought to life. I speak, of course, of Spirited Away. Not only did it win the 2002 Oscar for Best Animated Film, it is the highest grossing film in Japanese history. Intrigued yet? Of course you are, so read on.

‘The Kingdom Of Dreams and Madness’ Trailer: Behind The Scenes Of Hayao Miyazaki’s Final Film

The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness

Fans of the many great animated features to come out of Japan’s fabled Studio Ghibli are never happy to hear that the man behind the curtain, the master himself, Hayao Miyazaki, is retiring from making feature films. It’s something he has said in the past many times, but this time, with the release of his final film The Wind Rises having come and gone, it appears to be for real.

As depressing as all of that is, it turns out that filmmaker Mami Sunada was given unheard of access to Studio Ghibli to document how things work there and show Miyazaki, the writer and director of Castle in the Sky, My Friend Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and more, in his final days working as a filmmaker.

The result is a documentary titled The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, and you can watch a trailer for the movie below. Think of it like Jiro Dreams of Sushi, but following a master filmmaker instead of a master sushi chef.

Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises

A new trailer has been released for The Wind Rises, the upcoming animated feature from living legend Hayao Miyazaki, director of movies like My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, which he was nominated for an Oscar for, and Spirited Away, which he won an Oscar for.

The movie is said to be Miyazaki’s last (though he has said that before), following the life of a man who always dreamed of designing and building airplanes.

You can check out the trailer and read a description of The Wind Rises below.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
PlayStation 3
Planning/Production: Level-5
Animation: Studio Ghibli
Music: Joe Hisaishi
Release Date: January 22, 2013 (US)

There are some of us out there who pretty much bought a PlayStation 3 for one reason, and playing video games was not the reason. I will admit I basically bought it so I could watch Blu-rays and stream Netflix, without having to have a Gold XBOX Live account. I did get a bundle when I bought it and it came with a copy of Uncharted 2, which I really enjoyed and ended up finishing the story. But that came out a few years ago, but luckily something came out that really got me playing games on my PS3, and that was Ni No Kuni:Wrath of the White Witch.

I did not know too much about this game, other than it was a RPG and that Studio Ghibli was involved. And with Ghibli being involved that was pretty much all i needed to hear. It seems like a pretty big leap of faith, but I guess we shall see if I made the right decision.

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax

As if their fruitless attack on The Muppets wasn’t pathetic enough, the propagandatrons at Fox News are continuing to attempt to scare their viewers with that most dreaded of boogeymen – Liberal Hollywood!

Recently Fox Business News anchor Lou Dobbs accused the recently released Disney/Studio Ghibli animated Japanese import The Secret World of Arriety and the soon-to-be-released CGI-animated kids’ comedy Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax of indoctrinating America’s youth into an evil, anti-capitalist, eco-friendly liberal mindset.

You can watch the video here below.
