‘Blindspotting’ Trailer: Daveed Diggs Stars In A Thought-Provoking Film About Race Relations

Blindspotting

It’s still hard to imagine that we live in a world where people can judge us simply by the color of our skin. Fortunately, we have films that try to bridge that gap, and hopefully, the world can accept people for who they are on the inside. Until then, the need for films like Blindspotting is necessary.

Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for the film, which stars Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) as a parolee who is simply trying to make it through his last three days without getting into trouble. Only thing is, his best friend Miles (Rafael Casal) keeps finding ways that could put him back in jail. On top of that, Diggs’ character witnesses a police officer shooting an unarmed African American, and the tension between the community and the police is beginning to have an adverse effect on those closest to him. Check out the latest trailer below.

Hacksaw Ridge Blu-ray review

Hacksaw Ridge
Blu-ray l DVD l 4K Ultra HD
Director: Mel Gibson
Screenwriter: Andrew Knight and Robert Schenkkan
Cast: Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, Vince Vaughn
Distributor: Summit Entertainment
Rated PG | 104 Minutes
Release Date: February 21, 2017

I’m not one for the over-dramatized, based on a true story kind of movie. But for most of them, there is something special and inspirational that makes me want to know more about the subject’s story. Case in point, Hacksaw Ridge.

Now I didn’t know anything about Desmond Doss’ harrowing story of how he refused to take up arms during World War II, but ended up saving multiple lives during the Battle of Okinawa. But to see it on the big screen was something else. The fact that it was also directed by Mel Gibson did add some concern to it, given his outrageous behavior and reputation. Still, the film managed to meet my expectations. Check out my review below.

‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Trailer: How Good It Is To See Mr. Wick So Soon

John Wick Chapter 2 header

Of course, he’s back. Having a one and done film for John Wick (Keanu Reeves) didn’t seem appropriate for the man, the myth, and the legend. So the successful film about the former assassin who came out of retirement after the son of a crime boss killed his beloved dog (which was also a gift from his dying wife) is getting a well-deserved sequel, and it looks like it will live up to expectations.

Lionsgate has released the second trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2, and the action can only go up from here. Especially since there is a mark on him.

Check out the latest trailer here below.

Movie Review: La La Land

La La Land

La La Land
Director: Damien Chazelle
Screenwriter: Damien Chazelle
Cast: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, J. K. Simmons
Distributor: Summit Entertainment
Rated PG-13 | 128 minutes
Release Date: December 9, 2016

There’s really no simple way to put this, but La La Land is one of those rare, unforgettable movie going experiences that will be talked about for years to come. And that doesn’t even sum up how good it is. Damien Chazelle‘s follow-up to Whiplash reminds us of why we go to the movies, and believe me, this is a movie that needs to be seen in a theater.

The film pays homage to the days of Hollywood where Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers graced the screen with beautiful songs and elegant dances. But it is also a love letter to the luster and sparkle of Los Angeles, which attracts the hopeless romantics and the dreamers hoping to find love and reach for the stars, all the while learning that the city can also be crushing and unforgiving. In the end, Chazelle’s latest film is a true work of art that cannot be missed. Check out the full review below.

NYCC 2016: ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Trailer Keanu Reeves Is Out Of Retirement, Again

John Wick Chapter 2 header

For a guy who says he is out of the game, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) certainly has a hard time grasping the concept of retirement. Which is a good thing for us, especially if you were a fan of the first film. Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have released the first trailer today for John Wick: Chapter 2 at the New York Comic-Con. The first film, 2014’s John Wick, was very ambitious but caught everyone’s attention because of the visually appealing stylized action, and now it looks like returning director Chad Stahelski is turning it up in the sequel that will see the title character doing so much more than kick ass in a tailored suit.

Check out the trailer below.

‘La La Land’ Will Open Against ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’

La La Land starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling

Normally, we’ve reported on films that move away from the vicinity of the release date of Star Wars: Rogue One. After Star Wars: The Force Awakens claimed the number one spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks, who could blame a studio for rescheduling their films. But it seems as though Summit Entertainment didn’t get the message. That or they’ve really got a pair.

The studio has shifted the release date of Damien Chazelle‘s La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, from its original July 15 release all the way to December 16, 2016. Which just so happens to be the same exact release date as Star Wars: Rogue One. More on the story below.

Robert Schwentke Will Not Direct ‘The Divergent Series: Ascendant’

Robert Schwentke Won't Direct The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Lionsgate just closed the book on The Hunger Games quadrilogy last year, but they are still working The Divergent Series, another quadrilogy of a popular YA novel, with Summit Entertainment. Though the norm is to try to get a director locked into directing some if not all of the installments of the franchise, it appears that Robert Schwentke has had enough working on The Divergent Series, and will stop directing the films after its penultimate installment, The Divergent Series: Alligent.

According to a new report, Schwentke has dropped out of directing The Divergent: Ascendant, the final film of the franchise, which is a bit strange because the adaptation of the final book was split into two films, and most directors actually stick around until the end. More on the story below.

Lionsgate Apologizes For Whitewashed ‘Gods Of Egypt’ Oversight

Gods of Egypt header

By now, in 2015, you’d think that studios would have caught on to the idea that they would want to cast a film like Gods of Egypt with actors who are, I don’t know, Egyptian. Just so that the actors can properly reflect the ethnicity of that time period. But after seeing the first posters and trailer for the film, it’s no surprise that there was an uproar over the idea that headlining star Gerard Butler could even pass as a Egyptian. Let’s not forget that Nikola Coster-Waldau and Brenton Thwaites, who also star in this film, are both white as well.

As confusing as this may sound, the film still got made, and with the all the vitriol it’s already been getting with just the first trailer and posters alone because it is so whitewashed, director Alex Proyas and Lionsgate have come out to apologize for it. See what they had to say below.

‘Gods Of Egypt’ Trailer: Humans Against CGI Ancient Egypt Backdrop

Gods of Egypt header

Aesthetically, the first set of posters for Alex Proyas‘s Gods of Egypt did not look good, and obviously that should not be a representation of the film itself. Often times, it is though. But we should never let the look of posters cloud our judgement, even if this is a pretty white-washed film.

But holding out on the hopes that the film may be actually entertaining seems like a futile effort, especially since the look and feel of this new trailer gives off a wretched whiff of horribly bad CGI backdrops, with equally bad CG effects and even worse CG characters. Check out the full trailer for Gods of Egypt below.
