The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Directed by Michael Apted
Starring Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes, and Georgie Henley
Fox 2000 Pictures and Walden Media
Release Date: December 10, 2010

With the holidays quickly approaching, what better way to spend a night with the family than by going out and catching a movie. This weekend marks for right now, the final release in the Narnia series with The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Out of these three movies, the second one is the only one without a December release date. I have never read the books, but I have always been fascinated with the concept of these tales of faraway lands filled with both mythical and mystical creatures, and the variety of everything else as well. It makes me wonder the differences between the books and the movies. (Maybe one day I will get around to reading them, there is seven total).

This movie begins with us seeing Britain enlisting men for World War II, and Edmund (Skandar Keynes) wanting to enlist. His younger sister Lucy (Georgie Henley) finds him and gets him out of there so they can head home.

Watch Now: Trailer #2 For ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’

Voyage of the Dawn TreaderA second theatrical trailer has been released for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Watch the trailer here below.

The first trailer debuted online back in June, but there’s been little buzz about the third film in the Narnia film franchise.

In the upcoming film, we see the return of Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes), along with two of the four Pevensie children — Lucy and Edmund — who are accompanied on this nautical journey with their young cousin Eustace Scrubb.

Directed by Michael Apted, this new film is the first of the bunch to be financed by Fox, instead of Disney, which backed the first two movies, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian, for Walden Media. There’s a lot of pressure for Dawn Treader to do well, otherwise it’s unlikely that further Narnia adaptations will be made (there are seven Narnia books in author C.S. Lewis’s novel series).

Voyage of the Dawn Treader Banner

Back in December, it was reported that the Walt Disney Company had decided to step away from the Chronicles of Narnia franchise that they had been co-producing with Walden Media (Read: Disney Breaks Up With ‘Narnia’ Franchise). This was partly surprising, but at the same time it really wasn’t. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe did very well, costing $180 Million and bringing back almost $750 Million worldwide, but The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian jumped up to a $220 Million budget and only made $420 Million worldwide. There were still more books in the series expected to become movies, but with such a severe drop-off, the risk became too great…for Disney at least.

Within the same month that Disney decided to drop the franchise, Fox decided they wanted to jump into the pool with Walden in order to make The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which was already in pre-production (Read: Fox Decides To Pick Up ‘Narnia’ Franchise Afterall).

Now that we’re all caught up with the drama that has unfolded since the last movie was released, we now have our first official images from Voyage of the Dawn Treader via its Facebook page. This seems fast and unexpected all things considered, but as said, they were in pre-production, so here we are!

Narnia

After Disney decided to stop co-financing the franchise with Walden Media, it looked like The Chronicles of Narnia was in some big trouble after only two movies. Instead, like Superman appearing from the sky, 20th Century Fox has shown up to save the day, reaching a preliminary agreement to co-finance at least the third movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader with Walden.

This isn’t very much of a surprise as, when it was announced that Disney was disowning the franchise, all signs pointed toward Fox (Read: Disney Breaks Up With ‘Narnia’ Franchise), who had done plenty of work with Walden before. Fox also was trying to obtain the rights to the books before Walden won them, so they obviously didn’t need too much motivation.

Narnia

When The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe came out, it was automatically in the shadow of the juggernaut Lord of the Rings franchise that had just torn through cinematic history. Because of this shadow, comparisons were made — whether admitted or not — and Narnia wasn’t as earth-shattering as some would have thought. And while it wasn’t the worst movie ever made, it was forgettable and this highly impacted its sequel The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which had a sadly mediocre run, ultimately bringing it to its assumed fate.

Disney and Walden Media have officially confirmed that Disney will be parting ways with Walden Media on their collaboration the The Chronicles of Narnia franchise and that Disney will not be co-producing or financing the third project, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which was already in pre-production.
