Doom Digest

Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don’t always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we’ve resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.

Today: Children recreate The Beastie Boys video “Sabotage,” Batman teams up with Mountain Dew, Karen Gillan aka Amy Pond of Doctor Who talks Inspector Spacetime, a supercut of all the gear-shifting scenes from the Fast & Furious movie, and a Darth Vader USB Port Hub that someone really needs to get for me, plus Bits Of Doom.

Release Date: March 24, 2010

What would you do if when you turned 21 you inherited more than a namesake or a family fortune? For Jackie Estacado this was the case. Jackie was a hitman for the Franchetti mob that his Uncle Frankie ran, and with his 21st birthday only a couple of days away, he had no idea what was in store for him, only The Darkness knew!

Jackie was at the top of his game he loved driving fast cars and spending time with an assortment of women, and eating in fancy restaurants when he wasn’t taking care of business for the family. Being adopted at a young age by his uncle and never knowing his father due to the fact that he passed away before Jackie was born, Jackie held a lot of anger toward his father. The reason why awaits you in the book. (I would hate to spoil it for the readers). As Jackie turns 21, The Darkness emerges presenting itself and all the power that goes along with it. Being submerged into a battle that has been going on for centuries with a being known as the Angelus, Jackie must learn to use his powers and learn all the things that come with it whether good or bad.

Written by Rob Levin and Bryan Edward Hill

Top Cow
Price: $3.99; Release date: February 24, 2010

Marvel and DC have been getting most of the mainstream buzz over big event storylines like Blackest Night and Siege, but they aren’t the only game in town when it comes to crossover events. Top Cow has debuted several crossovers in recent years that have introduced major changes for their characters, and that trend looks like it will continue in 2010.

For those who haven’t been following Top Cow closely as of late, the trend began with a mini-series called First Born. That series saw the birth of a daughter to Sara Pezzini and Jackie Estacado, better known as Witchblade and The Darkness, respectively.

In 2008, First Born was followed up with a mini-series called Broken Trinity. This event established Witchblade, Darkness, and an angelic warrior known as Angelus as the three primary forces in Top Cow’s supernatural universe. Their individual weapons became known as artifacts and by the end of Broken Trinity we found out the three were not alone, and that a total of 13 artifacts existed in the world.

The Darkness, Raw EditionThe Darkness #1-3: Raw Edition

Cover price: $3.00; Available now

Why play God when you can be the Devil, himself? For more than a decade the anti-hero, The Darkness, has been a familiar name in the comic book world. Original creators, Garth Ennis, Marc Silvestri, and David Wohl showcased the first appearance in 1996 in another one of their Top Cow productions, Witchblade. The Darkness has been an amazing success due to its very dark undertone and graphically mature art design. This is one series that has made a creatively nefarious read out of a devilish persona.

Jackie Estacado has been bestowed with the Darkness, an unseemingly evil concoction of ascendancy. He befriends an ingenious scientist that teaches Jackie how to channel his unique devilish gift. The two team up to take on a small tropical city in the South American landmass. Faster than you can say, “Columbia Drug Packing Mule,” the duo have the city and large populated areas of the world dealing and pushing a new drug. The drug, called nightfall, is so pristine it’s undetected, isn’t addictive, doesn’t have any bad long-term effects, and it’s still legal. According to one drug-pushing goon in the comic and a line I thought sounded so natural coming from a pusher:

“You got two choices. You can have Jessica Alba working your knob while you lie on a pile of cash sipping rum on you private yacht in the Mediterranean, or you can take the drug.”
