The most wonderful time of the summer is upon us; it’s Sharknado Time! Back in 2013, the Asylum produced the first Sharknado and it “stormed” social media and became an overnight sensation. Here we are, 4 films later ready for the fifth installment of the franchise that helped resurrect the careers of Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. These films are very dear to me, as this marks my 4-year anniversary writing and reviewing for Geeks of Doom. The Sharknado franchise checks all the boxes: sharks, disaster movies, celebrity cameos, hilariously awful special effects… in other words, it’s event TV. This time, the ‘nado has gone global!
Let’s be real, reviewing Sharknado 5: Global Swarming in the same way you review other films or television series it just pointless. You knew years ago from the title alone if these movies were for you. This is now an annual American event, like Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. Fans gather to watch the ridiculousness, laugh at the cameos, and see what crazy stuff the creators come up with next.

Interview With The ‘Sharknado’ Series’ Baddest Momma – Tara Reid
|
 |

It’s Summer! That means sun, beaches, blockbuster movies, and of course… shark infested tornadoes! That’s right, it’s time for another Sharknado! Back in 2013, the original Syfy channel film from the schlock studio kings The Asylum debuted, and became an instant hit on social media developing a huge following on twitter. The film’s two big stars were 90s icons Ian Ziering (90210) as Fin Shepard and Tara Reid (American Pie) as his ex-wife April Wexler. The craze around the first film has led to a new sequel each year since then, each one more ridiculous than the one before, and each featuring more and more celebrity cameos. The Sharknado films have taken these characters to space and back, across the United States, and now in the 5th installment, Global Swarming, around the world. Geeks of Doom got a chance to speak with April herself, Tara Reid, to discuss the upcoming Sharknado film, the franchise and her career.
Check out the interview below.

Sharknado: The 4th Awakens
Directed by Anthony C Ferrante
Written by Thunder Levin
Starring Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, David Hasselhoff, Gary Busey, Ryan Newman, Masiela Lusha, Cody Linley, Imani Hakim
SyFy | Asylum Productions
Release Date: Wednesday, July 31, 2016, 8:00pm ET
The Syfy channel has lived on the back of its campy and so-bad-they’re-good CG-shark fests for years. In 2009, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus debuted. A year later, they started splicing sea creatures together with the Roger Corman-produced Sharktopus. But nothing captured the cultural zeitgeist like 2013’s Sharknado. Celebrities began tweeting about it, and soon it was a social media sensation. It was obvious there needed to be a sequel, and in 2014 we got Sharknado 2: The Second One, followed again last year with Sharknado 3, Oh Hell No! Finally, because we the people demanded it, the franchise that merged sharks and weather phenomena continues with Sharknado: The 4th Awakens! On a sentimental note, I consider the Sharknado franchise my Geeks Of Doom anniversary as Part 2 was my first review for the site.
Five years ago, Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his wife April (Tara Reid) rode back to Earth inside the belly of a giant shark from outer space. Their son Gil was born inside the shark. Unfortunately, their happy ending was interrupted, and it seemed like April was killed by falling space debris. At least that’s what Fin thought…

Tonight on Syfy Channel, the most anticipated event of the summer hits home… Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. When Sharknado (2013) became a pop culture phenomenon thanks to celebrities tweeting about it, director Anthony C. Ferrante knew he had something, and they quickly churned out a sequel per-summer. One of the biggest highlights of any Sharknado film, is counting all the cameos. The cross-cultural hit, the Sharknado series has had cameos from actors (A-D list), musicians and rappers, entrepreneurs, politicos, pro-wrestlers, you name it. And now… a music video.

The day is here, the time is now… it’s time for SHARKNADO 3!!! This actually means a lot more to me than the normal schmo watching Syfy original movies. Last year around this time, Sharknado 2: The Second One was my first review for GoD. The movie that became a twitter sensation thanks to its ridiculous (even for Syfy) title and plot, helping to resurrected the careers for 90s stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. It gained such a quick cult status that A – D list stars, including athletes, talk show hosts, rappers, and politicians were lining up for cameos in the sequels. Without further ado… the day we’ve all waited patiently for… Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

‘Sharknado 3’: Behind The Sharks (Video)

Sharks! Sharks everywhere! If I could’ve bought stock in shark before this summer, I’d be rich right now. First Jaws, the original summer blockbuster turned 40. Coincidentally, or maybe not, there were numerous shark attacks reported in the Carolina area making national news. And of course, we are smack-dab in the middle of Discovery Channel’s annual smorgasbord of shark related science (and occasional fiction) known as Shark Week.
Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! could not have picked a better time to come out. Now we get a couple of “behind the shark” videos to prep us for the oncoming storms.
Check out both videos below.

When you think “summer blockbuster,” you probably think of some $200 million superhero movie. But this is a new era, and today’s movie fans are much more sophisticated… or not. Forget the theater altogether, this year’s biggest movie comes to the Syfy network, and will crush all ratings competitors in its jaws. Of course, I’m talking about Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
