The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Coen Brothers

A little over a year ago we found out that Academy Award winners Joel Coen and Ethan Coen were making a western anthology for Netflix titled The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. At the time, I misread the project as an anthology series when in fact it was described as a western anthology “project,” not a series. And now we know that it will actually be a six-part western anthology film. Whether those six parts will in total equal the length of one feature film or if each part will be longer than that remains to be seen. Either way, I’m damn excited about it.

Netflix has now released an official trailer for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which is presented in the unique style of the Coen brothers. Each chapter tells a story about the American Old West, with Scruggs (played by Tim Blake Nelson) at the center of it all.

Jeremy Irons Joins Watchmen TV Show Cast

HBO hasn’t ordered Damon Lindelof‘s TV show adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons‘ comic Watchmen to series yet, but they have ordered a pilot episode to aid them in making a decision. And the cast for that pilot episode just added a big name.

It’s being reported that Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons has signed on for the pilot, which would be only the second major TV role for the actor should HBO order it to series. The other being The Borgias.

Watch The Teaser Trailer For ‘Colossal,’ A Giant Monster Movie Starring Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway in Colossal

I am always down for a giant monster movie. Even when it’s an incredibly strange giant monster movie.

We first heard about Colossal starring Anne Hathaway back in 2015, when it was described as Godzilla and Transformers meets one of Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze’s collaborations, Adaptation and Being John Malkovich.

Now the first teaser trailer for Colossal has been released, and it looks to live up to those comparisons. In it a monster is wreaking havoc on Seoul, South Korea, but as it turns out, that monster is somehow being controlled by Hathaway’s character. You can see how that wacky description looks in the trailer below!

After keeping production on The Fantastic Four, Fox’s reboot of the franchise, under wraps for months now, yesterday we finally got to see some behind-the-scenes photos and today the first trailer for the film.

Director Josh Trank (Chronicle) and screenwriter Simon Kinberg, who had described their new creation as a gritty, a more realistic take on the superhero team and its origin story, have filmed a video commentary for the nearly 2-minute trailer.

Fantastic Four

Earlier today, we talked about how the teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four is coming soon and how it will reportedly show a gritty take for Fox’s reboot of the franchise from director Josh Trank (Chronicle) and screenwriters Simon Kinberg and Jeremy Slater (X-Men: Days of Future Past). But while the film hits theaters this Summer, we’ve yet to see a drop of official footage or any stills from the production, which Trank recently said in an interview with Collider was a conscious decision.

But now, Collider has revealed the first behind-the-scenes look at the production for The Fantastic Four. One photo is of Trank on set, while the other is Kinberg with star Michael B. Jordan in his Human Torch suit.

Check out the photos here below.

‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot Looking At Tim Blake Nelson For Future Mole Man

Mole Man

Actor Tim Blake Nelson has entered into talks to join the cast of Fantastic Four, Fox’s reboot of the Marvel superhero franchise.

If a deal is reached, Nelson would play Harvey Elder, an outcast and scientist who eventually goes on to become the villainous Mole Man. Apparently Mole Man will not actually be appearing in the first installment of the new Fantastic Four reboot—Toby Kebbell has already been cast to play the familiar foe Doctor Doom—but the Harvey Elder character would set up the opportunity to use him as the villain in one of the planned sequels. Though introduced long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles existed, hopefully they’ll avoid the Leonardo with Donatello’s bo staff look seen above.

“A compass I learnt when I was surveying, it’ll… it’ll point you true north from where your standing, but it’s got no advice about the swamps, deserts and chasms that you’ll encounter along the way. If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp, what’s the use of knowing true north?”

We’re all familiar with Abraham Lincoln. We know he freed the slaves. We know his distinctive look. He’s even on our money. But how much do we really know? I for one can admit that I did not know much more than the basics, about the same as the average person would know (I fell asleep in history class a lot, what can I say), but as I’ve gotten older my interest in history has grown exponentially, and lessons via documentary or biopic and so on can be just as appealing as the latest popcorn flick.

With movies, however, we’re always wondering in the back of our brain just how historically accurate the story we’re being told really is. And this will happen no less while viewing Lincoln, the latest film from director Steven Spielberg which tells the story of our 16th president and his fight to pass the 13th Amendment, the amendment that aimed to put an end to slavery.
