Fantastic Four - 3

If you’re a fan of the Marvel universe, then you’re probably already aware of the big news in the world of the Fantastic Four: In Fantastic Four #587, which was released on January 25, one of the four died.

Now, another superhero has stepped in to join the team, which has been renamed and recostumed, and will debut in a new series simply called FF by Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting.

Marvel Comics Releases ‘A Little Help’ To Combat Suicide

Captain America: A Little HelpComic books often face real life and try to offer “a little help” within their pages. Often creatives in the industry team with organizations to craft stories specifically directed at certain issues in the hope of getting readers to pay attention. Captain America: A Little Help is an all-new story free to all fans via the Marvel Comics App and Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited that attempts to help raise awareness of suicide prevention.

From Marvel:

Written by Dr. Tim Ursiny, PH.D., CBC, RCC and illustrated by Nick Dragotta, this powerful story shows what happens when one man on the verge of suicide is drawn into a chance encounter with Captain America—and he may be the Avenger’s only hope!

“Super heroes fight a lot of battles, but there are few more important than combating suicide,” said Tom Brevoort, Senior Vice-President of Publishing. “That’s why we’re making Captain America: A Little Help available for free via our digital comics outlets. If even one person calls this number instead of doing something very tragic, we know that means we succeeded.”

Marvel Reveals Its Next Event: ‘Fear Itself’

Fear ItselfIn what Marvel was calling a “major press conference” the company announced this its big event for next year. Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, and VP Executive Editors Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso announced that April will see the release of Fear Itself, a 7-issue series written by Matt Fraction with art by Stuart Immonen. The series will see the biggest characters in the Marvel universe taking on a new villain, some king of god of fear. Aside from the seven issues of the main series there will also be a prologue issue out in March, which will be written by Ed Brubaker and feature art by Scott Eaton.

As with past events, the main story will be contained in the main miniseries, however, the story will spill into any number of regular series and special issues. Brevoort remarked that the number of tie-in issues would approach the number seen during Civil War. We can expect all the major players in the Marvel U to play a part in the adventure at some point, so be prepared for that.

Steve Rogers: Super SoliderTwo new Captain America series were announced at yesterday’s MONDO MARVEL panel at C2E2Steve Rogers: Super Soldier and Captain America: Patriot. The photos here are of the sneak peeks shown at the panel.

Bad news: Dale Eaglesham is no longer drawing Fantastic Four. Good news, he’s moving over to a new series titled Steve Rogers: Super Soldier. The four-issue mini-series launches in July and is written by Captain America mastermind Ed Brubaker.

Marvel editor Tom Brevoort told the audience that the story follows Steve Rogers in his post-Siege role, and also looks into the creation of the original super soldier serum that changed him into Captain America. It will be a high octane espionage adventure and will set up events that will affect the Marvel U for the foreseeable future. Covers for the series will be done by Carlos Pacheco.

‘Iron Man’ Motion Comic On The Way (UPDATED)

2010-03-22_adi_granov_iron_manFans of Marvel’s previous motion comics (Astonishing X-Men and Spider-Woman) will be happy to know another is on the way.

Hot on the heels of the Iron Man 2 hype, the next motion comic will be Iron Man Extreme, which looks like it will be an adaptation of the Extremis story arc by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov. Fans will no doubt remember the Extremis story for its influence on the 2008 Iron Man film by Jon Favreau.

Robot 6 discovered this news in a Chicago Sun-Times interview with Marvel executives Ira Rubenstein and Tom Brevoort about the publisher’s digital-publishing initiatives.

Steve Rogers To Be ‘Reborn’ As Captain America Before Independence Day

The original Sentinel of Liberty Steve Rogers will resume his role as Captain America when he returns to the Marvel Universe just in time for Independence day, according to Marvel Comics veteran Senior Editor Tom Brevoort in a recent interview with UGO.

Rogers will make his debut in Reborn #1, the first issue of a new series written by ongoing Cap scribe Ed Brubaker with art from Bryan Hitch and a cover by Alex Ross. The series is reported to hit comic shops on July 1, Brevoort said, and it will reveal all of the ground work that was laid out years before.

It made headlines two years ago when Steve Rogers met his untimely death in Captain America #25 at the hands of former lover Sharon Carter during the Marvel Universe Civil War, preceding a massive Skrull invasion.
