Toy Story

The Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger has officially announced that Pixar is making Toy Story 4, and that original Toy Story director John Lasseter will be returning to helm the fourth installment himself.

Disney has also locked in the June 16, 2017 calendar spot for a release date. The story will see Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys beginning a new chapter. The idea for the story was developed by some of the Pixar Brain Trust, including two-time Oscar-winner Lasseter (Toy Story, Tin Toy), two-time Oscar winner Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), Oscar winner Pete Docter (Up), and Toy Story 2 co-director and Oscar-winning Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich.

Disney In Depth banner

This fall season inside Disney In Depth we celebrate the memorable quotes across each of the Toy Story films that contributed to their collective hilarity and poignancy (be sure to check out my 25 Best Toy Story Quotes if you missed it). This November marks the 15th anniversary of Toy Story 2, my favorite in the franchise (from a one-liners standpoint).

In this edition I pick the 25 best Toy Story 2 quotes, so let’s get started. Just remember to not “talk to any toy you don’t know,” as Mrs. Potato Head would say.

Disney In Depth: Movie Review: Finding Nemo 3D

Finding Nemo 3D Poster

Somewhere beyond the sea, Finding Nemo returns to theatres in 3D! The breathtakingly gorgeous animated feature first provided audiences with a glimpse into the environments and lives of the ocean’s inhabitants just about ten years ago. Only Pixar could develop such an enchanting atmosphere with a heart-tugging story that grasps the audience’s full attention as much as the visual “eye candy.” For a number of reasons, this is quite possibly the most immersive and entertaining 3D film I have experienced.

To be considered in this extraordinary league requires several components, and Nemo delivers in all of these ways. For one, you need a compelling plot. Who can argue with gripping storytelling that ties us to the universal theme of parents allowing their children to let go? In this case, little clownfish Nemo’s surprising capture by a diver startles us. Here, caring father Marlin (voiced by the perfectly-cast Albert Brooks) finally brings Nemo (Alexander Gould) to his first day of school, and in a matter of minutes and an act of defiance, Nemo wanders beyond the reef. Caught. Gone. We feel for Marlin, lost without his little boy, and also for his son, now stuck in a dentist’s office aquarium. Now it’s up to each of the fish to face their fears, overcome their doubts, and attempt to reunite. Compelling, check.

Disney In Depth: Top 10 Funniest Pixar Characters

Disney In Depth banner

Welcome to another edition of Disney In Depth! This week, in honor of Disney-Pixar’s most recent feature, Brave, I will be focusing on some of the best elements of Pixar’s films: funny characters. They evoke a laugh or two during perilous scenes, and manage to make us smirk when a situation seems far from humorous. These are the funniest of the bunch, offering a witty quip or inspiring a gag. This animation studio is known for developing deep characters, in both their personalities and designs. Thanks to Pixar’s brilliant team of writers and the talented voice artists who made these images into fully-fleshed individuals, we have a bunch of characters to root for and giggle along with. Here are the ones I find as most hilarious.

Toy Story 2Toy Story 2
Blu-Ray 3D Combo
Directed by John Lasseter, Ash Brannon, and Lee Unkrich
Starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Don Rickles
Walt Disney Home Entertainment
Release Date: November 1, 2011

I am a sucker for animation. From Saturday morning cartoons to epic feature films, I have always been drawn to the medium. Disney movies were staples in my household, and we owned a ton of them. In fact, my current DVD/Blu-Ray collection probably has its roots in how I felt when bringing home a new Disney movie on video. Not only did the package contain the film that I loved, but the glossy, white-rimmed boxes were different from all the other VHS cassettes we had. They were a sight to behold, and though the format has changed over the years, Disney has never disappointed in their home video releases. Always at the forefront of trends, Disney/Pixar’s release of Toy Story 2‘s 3D Combo Pack is a beautiful one.

toy story 2Toy Story 2
Special Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo
Directed by John Lasseter
Starring Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Don Rickles
Walt Disney Home Entertainment
Release Date: March 23, 2010

Toy Story 2 had a lot to live up to. The original Toy Story was an instant hit both critically and commercially. It’s success started PIxar down the path of awesomeness that would eventually lead to nine other formidable films that I still cherish. So the question is, how would they follow up such a massive hit? With more of the same, as it turns out.

Where the first film focused on Buzz Lightyear more and was really his story, the sequel gives a similar treatment for our favorite cowboy, Woody. Woody’s friend and owner Andy heads off to cowboy camp leaving his toys to their own devices. Things shift into high gear when an obsessive toy collector named Al McWhiggin (owner of Al’s Toy Barn) kidnaps Woody. At Al’s apartment, Woody discovers that he is a highly valued collectible from a 1950s TV show called Woody’s Roundup, and he meets the other prized toys from that show, Jessie the Cowgirl, Bullseye the Horse, and Stinky Pete the Prospector. Back at the scene of the crime, Buzz Lightyear and the other toys from Andy’s room — Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, Rex, and Hamm — spring into action to rescue their pal from winding up as a museum piece. The toys get into one predicament after another in their daring race to get Woody before Andy returns.

Second Trailer For Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 3’ Wants To Play With You

Toy Story 3

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Entertainment have released the second official trailer for next Summer’s highly-anticipated Toy Story 3.

The trailer is definitely a different direction from the first trailer that we saw released. In that one, it was mainly about Andy going off to college and the toys being dumped off in a day care facility. This time around, you’re returned to the day care, but you get to meet some of the new toys that we’ve heard about but not seen, like the Ken doll voiced by Michael Keaton, the mysterious toy that appeared in Pixar’s last film, Up, and Timothy Dalton‘s Mr. Pricklepants.

Continue on down to the bottom to read a synopsis and watch this brand new Toy Story 3 trailer for yourself. And do not forget, the movie will be released in only 4 short months on June 18, 2010.

New ‘Toy Story 3’ Trailer, Casting Information & More!

Toy Story 3

It was an exciting day when the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 3 was released, but that trailer didn’t show us too much in terms of story and such. It was clear that the real moment of magic — not counting the day we can see it in theaters on June 18, 2010 — would be when we were able to watch the full theatrical trailer…and that moment is right now. The official Toy Story 3 trailer has been released to the masses and can be seen here below!

The trailer is wonderful, as you fairly might have assumed, and it whisks you right back to that world, complete with all the glorious nostalgia you possess there. It opens up with a nice, warm little re-introduction to the young boy Andy and his childhood with everyone’s favorite toy box before shooting us to present day where Andy — now 18-years-old — is off to college and trying to figure out what to do with his old toys. We find out that they’re shipped off to a daycare center where a rather humorous segment of rampaging toddlers tears through the bunch. This sets up the main story of the crew attempting a daring escape from the daycare and their adventure to find home.

Click on over to the other side to check out the trailer!
