So that being said, and what remains our annual wont, here’s our picks for some great music recently released and upcoming. And as always, this one goes to eleven.

Playlist: Booty Music for 80s & 90s Artsy Alternative Types

This mix is exactly what the title says. It’s meant to be listened to all the way through, in order, without skipping. (I realize this is an antiquated practice, but I made it in 2002. I made a CD tray card and cover for it and everything. #getoffmylawn)

The albums these are taken from are solid, too.

Spider-Man: Turn Off The DarkSpider-Man: Turn Off The Dark
Starring Reeve Carney, Jennifer Darmiano, Patrick Page
Score by Bono and The Edge
Foxwoods Theatre
Opening Date: June 14, 2011

Just like in the comics, it seems Spider-Man can’t even catch a break on Broadway. From less than kind reviews to stunt guys getting hurt, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, once a promising musical production, looked like it was going to implode. But, in true Spider-Man fashion, the production dusted itself off and tried again. Now, after a brief hiatus and a rewrite, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark 2.0 begins their preview run once again.

Turn Off The Dark tells the tale of Peter Parker, a high school student bitten by a radioactive spider that gives him super powers. At first, Parker uses his power for personal gain but when tragedy strikes, he learns that with great power must always come great responsibility.

Problems Continue In Preview Showing Of ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ Musical

Spider-Man: Turn Off The DarkSpider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the Broadway musical set to officially open on January 11, 2011, has been in the news a lot lately, and not because the buzz for the show has been spectacular. No, it’s been quite the opposite. In fact, news about this musical has been nothing short of disastrous from the beginning.

The Spider-Man musical, based on the famous webslinging Marvel Comics character, was written by Julie Taymor (who also directs) and Glen Berger, with music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge, and is currently in previews at the Foxwoods Theatre on Broadway in New York City. While the musical has been long in the works, the production has been fraught with delays and budgets problems, first running out of money last year, and now soaring up to $65 million, making it the most expensive Broadway musical ever.

Then there’s the much-talked about technical difficulties, as the daring aerial stunts to be performed have proven to be not practical or even safe for live theater. Back in October, two actors from the musical came forward, revealing that they sustained injuries during rehearsals. Actor Kevin Aubin broke his wrists in a catapulting stunt during a special presentation of the show, according to NY Post, while another actor stated he’d broken his feet a month earlier while performing the same move as Aubin, according to NY Times.
