Universal Studios Hollywood: Transformers: The Ride 3D

Transformers: The Ride 3D
Universal Studios Hollywood
Ride previewed: April 28, 2012
Ride opens to public on May 25, 2012

Hasbro‘s Transformers films have excited the public for years now with fulfilled promises of high-speed action, fiery pyrotechnics, and intense Autobot vs. Decepticon battles on land and in the city skies above; everything you’ve come to expect from a Michael Bay production. The question is, could Michael Bay effectively translate that experience to a theme park ride? Recently I went on that ride, and I can honestly say, “Mission Accomplished.”

Michael Bay collaborated with the ride builders at Universal Creative to bring the experience from his films to life. I rode Transformers: The Ride 3D during what Universal Studios Hollywood called their Technical Preview (which just means that some aspects of the ride may not have been fully functional, but to be honest, everything seemed to work fine to me).

I’ve included an unabashedly enthusiastic post-ride video reaction and photos here below, along with a description of the ride and of the whole experience.

Universal Studios Hollywood has officially announced that Jimmy Fallon will be their brand new virtual host on the famed Studio Tour, which over 150 million people have taken part in.

Fallon will be introducing and setting up videos that will play on the new HD screens that are now part of the tram cars after some major high-tech upgrades were unleashed on the park, including the insane new 3D King Kong experience.

On his new gig, Fallon said, “We really had fun with filming my role. We brought some writers out from our show and added some jokes, more play with the Studio Tour guides, the tram drivers and we added a song or two. The tour itself is a classic, a really great experience. For anyone with any interest in show business, it’s all there: the glamor, the glitz, all the hard work that goes into making a movie or a TV show can be experienced on the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour. I’m very happy to be a part of it.”

Universal Studios Hollywood Grinchmas

This weekend marked the beginning of Grinchmas at Universal Studios Hollywood, the annual holiday event hosted by The Grinch and his sidekick Max the Dog from Dr. Seuss’ classic holiday tale How The Grinch Stole Christmas. To kick off the event, the California theme park is partnering with the Amanda Foundation and the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services to host the Max to the Rescue: Whoville’s Have A Heart Pet Adoption Fair happening today, Sunday December 12, 2010, from noon to 4PM in an area located near the theme park’s main entrance.

Max the Dog will be there to greet the animal shelter dogs and potential new pet owners. “Max” is actually Dusty, Dexter, Buster, and Scrapper, former shelter dogs, who were “discovered” by trainers who felt their playfulness, intelligence and “look” who perfect for the the Grinchmas celebration, as well as for TV and film productions.

According to USH, during Grinchmas, the four Max dogs perform for 30-minutes at a time, then enjoy a leisurely hour and half break, all the while interacting with their trainers. The rest of their time is spent in dog runs and in the company of other canine friends.

Rob Zombie To Bring ‘House Of 1000 Corpses’ To Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights

People are fairly evenly split down the middle when it comes to Rob Zombie‘s brutal horror debut, House of 1000 Corpses. Many seem to love it while just as many have a pretty passionate hatred for it; it really just all depends on how the movie happened to play to you. Looking past your opinion on the film itself, you have to admit: the twisted and deranged world that Zombie created is nightmare-worthy visual accomplishment.

Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that they have partnered up with Zombie himself to create a brand new attraction to their popular yearly event, Halloween Horror Nights. The attraction will be called Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses: In 3D ZombieVision, and will allow entrants to throw on a pair of 3D glasses and make their way through terrifying locations from the movie including Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters and Madmen, the Firefly family residence where our victims first meet the likes of Mama, Baby, and Otis before being turned into questionable works of art like Fishboy, and of course Dr. Satan’s underground lair.

Universal Studios’ New ‘King Kong 360 3-D’ Opens Today!

Since fire ravaged and destroyed much of the Universal Studios Hollywood lot, we’ve been covering their progress. One of the more exciting plans was to rebuild the King Kong attraction that debuted in 1986 and was badly damaged in the blaze. Universal brought in the director of 2005’s King Kong, Peter Jackson, and they set out to make an amazing new attraction to their tour.

Since then, we’ve heard much about the new ride, and it’s been about as exciting sounding as anything else you could think of. And while it’s called “360 3-D,” it does have a lot more of a 4D feel to it, considering the movement and interaction involved.

If you’ve been at all interested in checking out the new King Kong attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, well…you’re now in luck. The ride is making its debut TODAY!

Click on over to check out a couple new images, and some making of videos for the the ride.

Universal Studios Hollywood Has Officially Re-Opened Courthouse Square

Clock Tower

Universal Studios Hollywood has officially re-opened one of the more famous areas of their lot: Courthouse Square.

If you’re not familiar with the incredibly long past year that Universal has had: last June a massive fire destroyed four acres of the studio property (Read: Fire Raging At Universal Studios Hollywood). Since then they have been hard at work not only rebuilding the famous studio, lots, and visitor tour — but also on making everything bigger and better than ever before with new, state-of-the-art technologies and attractions. First came the announcement of their initial re-opening and their tram tour with insane new audio and video capabilities (Read: Universal Studios Hollywood Backlot Set To Return To Action After Fire). Next came word of the colossal return of one of their main attractions: King Kong. Only this time he would be so much more realistic than the famous giant animatronic beast they once had (Read: Universal Studios To Unveil New ‘King Kong’ Attraction In 2010).

Now that we’re all caught up, fans of the studio/park and filmmakers alike will be pleased at the latest announcement that Courthouse Square is now open once again. To celebrate the re-opening, a massive parade was thrown with many different characters from various movies that have been filmed there.

Click over to see some images from the re-opening parade.

Universal Studios To Unveil New ‘King Kong’ Attraction In 2010

Kong

One of the most legendary movie attractions ever to exist was the King Kong movie ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. Sadly, the attraction and much, much more property was lost in that devastating backlot fire in June of last year.

Now that the fire is a distant memory and Universal has made huge plans to completely makeover the experience for tourists, including the recently-announced Creature From the Black Lagoon stage show (Read: ‘Creature From The Black Lagoon’ Gets A Rockin’ Stage Show At Universal Studios Hollywood) — they’re ready to bring the mighty Kong back to the fans.

While the King Kong attraction is making a return, it will not be that classic robotic ape we know so well. Kong is embracing the technologies of today and getting the complete makeover treatment. This time around, the experience will be based on Peter Jackson‘s 2005 King Kong and it will present fans with a groundbreaking 4-D (yeah, 4-D!), multi-sensory experience with mind-blowing effects and Earth’s largest Surround Digital projection system. This already sounds like something that has to be added to my bucket list.

Click over for a description of how this new ride will go.
