Escape Plan Header

A trailer has a tendency to reveal either the best parts of the film or too much of it. So after watching this first trailer for Escape Plan, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, there is a sense that it’s both of that.

The film is about two prisoners who try to break out of the world’s most inescapable prison. One prisoner actually makes a living on breaking out of prison (Stallone) and the other an aged criminal who will help him break out (Schwarzenegger).

While the premise sounds like the basis of a good old fashioned action movie, this trailer just gives too much of the plot away. Check it out below.

The Tomb Header

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are reuniting again for The Expendables 2, but if you’re worried that you’ll never get to see them share the same screen, then it’s time to put that aside, because they’ll be back for The Tomb. The film features Stallone as a man who designs heavily fortified prisons, only to be be wrongly put in one of his own. Schwarzenegger, a member of the prison, will help Stallone’s character bail out. The Mikael Håfström-directed film also stars Jim Caviezel, Vincent D’Onofrio, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, Amy Ryan, and 50 Cent. So before you watch The Expendables 2 this weekend, be sure to check out the first photo from The Tomb. Click below to see a full version of the photo.

There’s not a whole lot to get into about the photo itself, it is after all a teaser photo. Just Schwarzenegger and Stallone just hanging around in a prison. But the synopsis below gives some added anticipation to The Tomb, which does not have a release date at this time.

Caviezel plays Hobbes, the warden of the Tomb, and Jones will play as Drake, the lead guard of the maximum-security prison. D’Onofrio plays Lester Clark, Breslin’s business partner and CEO of B&C Security, their independent security company hired by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to test the integrity of their maximum-security facilities nationwide. Ryan plays Abigail Ross, jack-of-all trades and one of Beslin’s closest confidants at B&C Security. It’s easy to see why Hollywood loves a good superhero story. The genre has become so popular over the past couple of years, it’s no wonder why everyone is in such a rush to strike while the iron is hot and cash in on the trend. While the story in a superhero movie like The Dark Knight is a great one, providing the essential themes of good versus evil and the power of one man, etc., The Cape tries to follow that same method for success.

The difference between these two is that the television series The Cape, which debut on Sunday January 9, 2011, isn’t The Dark Knight. Not that it’s really intending to be, but it’s not even as good as other superhero television shows.

The premise for The Cape sounded like something that, on paper, should be a great execution of the genre. A cop gets framed for a crime he didn’t commit! He turns over to a life of heroics to protect the ones he loves!

But that sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Maybe even a little bit too familiar?

DVD Review: The Midnight Meat Train

The Midnight Meat Train
Unrated Director’s Cut
Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura
Starring Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, Vinnie Jones
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: February 17, 2009

Whether we like it or not, our names do define us. Some are blessed with awesome names such as Alex Starbuck, while others are forced to live with the name Richard Rider (give it a moment, you will get it). My point is, a name is very important and can make you or break you. Had someone told the producers of The Midnight Meat Train, I think the movie would have had a much deserved longer lifespan than it did in theaters.

The Midnight Meat Train tells the story of struggling photographer Leon (Bradley Cooper) in need of his big break. In search of more realistic images, he comes across the mysterious Mahogany (Vinnie Jones), a sharp dressed passenger on a train with a secret. It seems Mahogany loves his day job as a butcher so much that he is spending his nights butchering unsuspecting straphangers. When Leon suspects Mahogany’s midnight activities, he decides to gather evidence on the butcher to bring him down once and for all and in the process gets pulled deeper into Mahogany’s world.
