DUMBO

Dumbo (2019)
Director: Tim Burton
Writer: Ehren Kruger
Cast: Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Nico Parker, Finley Hobbins, Alan Arkin
Distributor: Walt Disney Studios
Rated PG | Minutes: 112
Release Date: March 29, 2019

Walt Disney Animation Studio’s Dumbo (1941) is considered to be one of the greatest hand-drawn films ever to be released by the animation studio. And like most of the studio’s timeless animated features, it got the live-action adaptation treatment.

Tim Burton, who has worked under the Disney banner numerous times before, gets behind the lens once more to direct this new telling of the titular baby elephant who has all of his unique and whimsical signature touches but also still stays true to the tender, sweet, and warm spirit of the animated original. Though some of its bigger stars don’t add any depth to this reimagining, Dumbo himself and the debuts of Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins bring plenty of charm to the film that reminds us about why we love Disney’s favorite baby elephant and what makes outsiders so endearing. My full review blow.

The Academy Award-nominated Ralph Breaks the Internet is now available for you to own. Disney’s latest sequel brings back those lovable digital misfits for an all-new adventure that takes Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) on an all-new adventure across the digital space. Their search for a valuable replacement part to help fix Vanellope’s game Sugar Rush takes the two to the Internet, where they run to all sorts of new characters like the tough street racing queen Shank (Gal Gadot) and trend-setting algorithm Yesss (Taraji P. Henson).

This very fun sequel comes with a number of equally fun, but very standard, bonus features. However, they may be of interest to those who love a deep dive into the animation and story process. These features take a look at all of those layers and how each team must work in tandem to make sure everything fits together nicely. Check out a mini film review plus a review of all the bonus features below.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid
4k Ultra HD | Blu-ray
Director: Ron Clements, John Musker
Writer: Ron Clements, John Musker
Cast: Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Pat Carroll, Samuel E. Wright, Jason Marin, Kenneth Mars, Buddy Hackett, and René Auberjonois
Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures
Rated G | Minutes: 83
Release Date: February 26, 2019

Though hand-drawn animation may not be as common in movies as it once was before the days of Pixar, it is still a process that anyone can appreciate. And Disney’s The Little Mermaid reminds us about how the medium, along with a wonderful story, can work together in tandem to deliver a very entertaining effort.

As one of the films that helped launch the Disney Renaissance, 1989’s The Little Mermaid still has a story that resonates with its young audience today about a free-spirited young mermaid who wants to break free from her father, King Trident. Though he wants the best for her, she finds herself wanting more than being under the sea as she falls in love with Prince Eric, a dashing young human mariner.

In an attempt to be the one with she loves, Ariel signs a contract with Ursula, an evil sea witch, and in exchange for her voice, she is able to walk amongst the surface dwellers and has only 72 hours to get Eric to kiss her so she will regain her voice and make the change permanent. The Lion King

Those watching the Oscars last night might have caught a glimpse of Jon Favreau‘s The Lion King. The film is a CGI remake of the 1994 Academy Award-winning animated film that centered on a young lion cub being groomed to be king of Pride Rock. This new look may feel like familiar territory considering a lot of the footage in it was already seen in the initial teaser trailer. However, it all seems like its setting up for something bigger. And not just a brand new poster. Check out the teaser and the new poster here below.

Lauren Shuler Donner On The Future Of ‘Deadpool’ and The Rest Of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ Franchises Under Disney

Deadpool 2 Trailer

Last year, the Department of Justice approved The Walt Disney Company’s $71 billion offer to acquire Fox’s entertainment assets, including television and film properties. The news was a cause for celebration for Marvel fans as the move meant that X-Men and Fantastic Four characters would finally be able to play in the Marvel Studios sandbox.

However, this also meant that the current X-Men franchise, including its many spinoffs like Deadpool and the yet-to-be-released The New Mutants, was in serious jeopardy of no longer continuing or being rebooted. Deadpool, a raunchy superhero with a debaucherous behavior, doesn’t quite fit into what Disney has done with the MCU and the family friendly films they release.

Long-time X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner spoke about passing the franchise to their new owners, Disney. She also addressed its future, as well as the future of Deadpool and when The New Mutants will be released. More on the report below.
