Honest Trailers Watchmen

Before watching characters from Zack Snyder’s DC Cinematic Universe have cameos in Suicide Squad this week, let’s revisit one of his earlier works. Before he turned the beloved comic The Dark Knight Returns into the universally polarizing Batman v. Superman, he turned the MOST beloved comic all time into… a universally polarizing movie. This week, Screen Junkies tackles Snyder’s 2009 adaptation of the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons classic, Watchmen, and gives it the Honest Trailers treatment.

Check out the Honest Trailer below.

Watchmen

It’s being reported that HBO is actually considering a possible new series adaptation of the legendary Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons comic book Watchmen.

Many of you will recall the 2009 movie adaptation of the same name, directed by Dawn of the Dead (2004), 300, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder, which was far better than anyone expected the once thought un-filmable adaptation to be. It’s Snyder himself who is currently in talks with HBO about the potential for a series based on the comic.

Watchmen Spongebob Mashup

Mashups are a way of life today. Hell, I’ve probably got ten t-shirts with some sort of weird mixing of characters or movies. Having now babbled for a few second, I will get to the point. Going by the moniker El Cid, Rodrigo Huerta gives us one of the funniest mashups ever: SpongeMen SquareWatch. Transforming the characters of SpongeBob SquarePants into the heroes and villains of the Watchmen, Huerta creates comic gold on YouTube. Amazingly enough, he’s made several of these and this is the first I’ve heard of him.

Check out the video here below and make sure you aren’t drinking anything you don’t want to spit up while laughing!

Zack Snyder Made ‘Watchmen’ To “Save It From The Terry Gilliams Of This World”

Watchmen Director Zack Snyder

One of the most polarizing movies to be released in the past few years is Zack Snyder‘s Watchmen. While the director achieved the impossible by adapting the virtually unfilmable comic book for the big screen, there are those who say that he didn’t stay true to the source material from creators Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. But producer Joel Silver declared that Snyder’s take on Watchmen was “too much a slave” to the comic, and added that Terry Gilliam‘s version over at 20th Century Fox would have been much better.

But Snyder isn’t just going to take comments like that sitting down. He is going to fight back. Hit the jump to see what he said.

DC ReRelaunch: DC Comics Announces ‘New New 52’

DC Re-Relaunch banner

In a desperate attempt that’s sure to surprise everyone in the comic book community, DC Comics is planning a RE-relaunch of their entire line of comic books to boost sales and appeal to new readers with The New New 52.

The breaking news came not at this weekend’s popular Northwest convention Emerald City Comic Con, which DC decided to skip altogether, but rather from flyers handed out by costumed superheroes today, April 1, 2012, at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ, to confused attendees of the Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within seminar.

And I’ve got to say that I’m utterly shocked by this recent turn events. Yes, it seems that the sales that were being reported on DC’s recent relaunch on their entire line of comics was not as spectacular as we all thought, as they’re going back to the well one more time and introducing a new line up of comics, and you may be surprised by the results as the comic titles released are not what any of us would have expected to see. In fact, most of the superhero comics are long gone and replaced with several unknown titles that are made to appeal to separate groups of the non-comics reading public. Sure, the mainstays are here, but that’s about it. So, are you ready to check out the new list that will be debuting in July? I hope you’re sitting down.

Social Blend Podcast

Social BlendThe Social Blend podcast is back, and this week with a bit of a Geeks of Doom tang to it. Fellow Geeks of Doom contributor, and Associate Editor Hunter Camp aka MK2Fac3 joins us on the podcast this week – and we focus a lot on the latest details on Watchmen, Superman: The Man of Steel, Game of Thrones, and more.

Our first geek diversion in the show is looking at the new trailer for Iron Sky, which leads us into a whirlwind discussion of some of the work by Zack Snyder, including Sucker Punch and more. We debate the merits (or lack thereof) of the Before Watchmen prequel comic series from DC Comics.

Also we take a look at the latest news for Doctor Who Series 7, and the recent legal blues surrounding Ghost Rider.

Outside of our geek culture concentration, we also discuss some other news on the latest Social Blend, including Rick Santorum and the current Election news; and the recent passing of Whitney Houston.
