The rural Mississippi community of Cutler County is one where the alcohol runs dry, but the crystal meth and Christianity are plentiful and right smack in your face the moment you cross its borders. In this town, Big John Dawson (William Forsythe), the county’s charismatic crime boss and resident legal genius, rules its humidity-soaked stretches like a feudal lord and uses the services of the underworked local law enforcement to peddle his crystal meth to Cutler’s bored citizenry.

The shocking murder of a young eloping couple in Cutler brings the humble little hamlet to national attention when one of the victims is revealed to be the daughter of an Illinois congressman in actor-turned-filmmaker Miles Doleac’s second feature The Hollow – a gritty, downbeat thriller cut from the mold of neo-noir classics like the Coen Brothers’ Blood Simple and No Country for Old Men and the modern Southern Gothic suspense of the first season of HBO’s True Detective and Jeff Nichols’ Mud.

Netflix’s “The Rat” Takes On People Who Spoil Shows (Video)

Netflix's "The Rat"

You’re going about your business one day, taking a peek at what friends and family are up to on social media, nothing out of the ordinary. When suddenly, THWAP, a nice fat spoiler for a TV show you’re not yet caught up on slaps you right in the eyeballs because someone you know just couldn’t help but shout out what happened (NOTE: Do not Google the noiseword “thwap”…seriously. I regret doing so, but stuck with it anyway because it effectively embodies what I imagine a spoiler smacking you in your head cameras sounds like). Not a second thought about the possibility that someone they know and are supposed to care about might not have seen it yet.

You quickly rush to close the page and maybe stick your head in the microwave for a few seconds to see if that’ll help, but it’s too late, the damage is already done. You know it. I know it (I was watching over your shoulder, giggling about “thwap”). And not even a Men in Black flashy thingy is going to help you now.

It happens all the time, and Netflix is very familiar with it as a company that releases entire seasons on the same day. To send a message to these slaughterers of your happy feelings, the streaming service has released a video called “The Rat.” You can check it out below.

“God forgives, the Brotherhood doesn’t.”

Point Break, Lionheart, The Last Boy Scout, Double Impact – 1991 was a hell of a year for action movies. Joining those immortal classics is Craig R. Baxley‘s Stone Cold, starring former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Brian Bosworth.

“The Boz” plays Joe Huff, a bad-ass Alabama cop with his own brand of justice. While on suspension for insubordination, Joe is recruited by the FBI to go undercover and infiltrate a Mississippi white supremacist biker gang known as The Brotherhood. Gaining the trust of The Brotherhood’s barbaric leader, Chains Cooper (Lance Henriksen, Aliens), won’t be easy. But Joe Huff doesn’t do “easy.”

I’ve made my love for HBO no secret, with two of my all-time favorite shows going strong right now in Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, and a slew of others I’ve adored over the years. So instead of reviewing season 2 of Boardwalk on Blu-ray, I’ll just be swooning about it for a bit before sharing what bonus features there are to enjoy.

Where season 1 established the incredible collection of characters the show has to offer, season 2 expands on them (those who have survived, anyway), creating an intricately crafted web of often interconnecting storylines. The primary focus of the second season is again Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Steve Buscemi) and James Darmody (Michael Pitt). But instead of being the boy Nucky helped to raise, Jimmy has reunited with his estranged father, the Commodore (Dabney Coleman), and is leading the charge to take control of Atlantic City and the alcohol coming in and out of it. As you might expect, Nucky isn’t fond of anyone trying to muscle him out of his position of power, let alone the man he’s helped to make who he is, and the two go to war. The results of this power struggle trickle down, affecting anyone associated with the two parties and leading to some interesting new business partners.

Raging Bull

A few websites around the cyber universe are abuzz with some of the most eye-opening and ultimately distressing news to fans of Raging Bull, the 1980 biopic directed by Martin Scorsese which told of the life of ex-middleweight boxer and champion Jake LaMotta. MovieHole is reporting that a prequel/sequel hybrid film is going to start production this summer, starring William Forsythe (Dick Tracy, Gotti, Boardwalk Empire) as LaMotta, who will try to fill the enormous shoes of playing the role that was made famous by Robert DeNiro in the original film.

Casting is currently underway for the new film, based on a book by the real LaMotta entitled Raging Bull II: The Continuing Story of Jake LaMotta. This new installment will show the pre and post career of LaMotta, bookending the original film. Forsythe plays the older LaMotta; who will be playing the younger LaMotta remains to be seen.
