Illustrated Edition – Hardcover
By Neil Gaiman

You know how Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a fascinating read all on its own, but yet is elevated to another level when read with the accompanying illustrations by Sir John Tenniel? That’s the feeling you’ll get when you pick up the new edition of Neil Gaiman‘s novel Neverwhere, now rereleased in the United States with illustrations by Chris Riddell.

First released in 1996 as a novelization of Gaiman’s original script for the Neverwhere miniseries on BBC, the novel follows Richard Mayhew, an average man living a humdrum life in London led around by his controlling fiancee when his world is turned upside down after he rescues a mysterious young girl named Door. After his good deed renders him invisible and unable to go back to his normal life, Richard must find Door in London Below, a dark bizarre hidden underworld populated by angels, monsters, assassins, supernatural beings, and more.

Bite Me by Christopher MooreBite Me: A Love Story
By Christopher Moore
Hardcover
William Morrow
Release date: March 23, 2010

Bite Me by Christopher Moore, the sequel to You Suck and Bloodsucking Fiends, is a romantic comedy in a world where vampires exist. Trust me, I know, another vampire book in the barrage of vampire saturation in all of modern media. Just stick with me for a few minutes and then you can make your judgment.

Being that I have not read the other books in this series I came in with no prior knowledge of any of the characters or their history. The first problem you would normally run into would be confusion from jumping into the middle of a storym but Moore really does a great job of catching everyone up in the first chapter. I was in no way confused and was able to pick right up and delve into the story.

Basically the first two books lead us to a point where Elijah, the old Vampire that turned the character Jody to a vampire in the first book, has left the city. Jody and Tommy, who Jody turned in to a vampire, are encased in bronze by their minion Abby and her boyfriend Stephen Foo. We also get to read about the two cops, Cavuto and Rivera, who basically got payed off to look the other way as the vampires leave town, but soon find out it wasn’t all of them that left and that Elijah left a surprise name Chet, who is a shaved cat that Elijah changed into an evil-minded vampire, behind. Abby and Foo have a lot of trouble headed their way.
