Frankenweenie

As you saw from our reaction post made earlier today, we are pretty excited for Frankenweenie.

It’s a Tim Burton film that blends classic horror motifs (mostly from Frankenstein) with stop-motion animation and 3D effects. We’ve already seen two trailers for Frankenweenie, but none of them paid homage to the classic horror films the way this new retro trailer does.

Check it out below.

Frankenweenie

This summer, audiences didn’t seem to show much affection towards Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, and rightfully so, since the film was critically panned. Now that that film is behind him, Burton is now turning his attention to Frankenweenie.

The teaser trailer was released back in March, and now a new trailer for the film has arrived online, giving a more in depth look at the story. You can see the new trailer below.

Frankenweenie

Tim Burton was working for Disney as an animator in 1984 when he made his live-action directorial debut with a darkly funny short film about a young boy who takes a cue from a horror classic to bring his beloved pet dog Sparky back to life after being hit by a car, and that twisted little gem got him fired as a result when the company deemed it too unusual to bother with a legitimate release. After more than a quarter of a century Frankenweenie is being resurrected by Burton as a 3D, black and white, stop-motion animated feature and Entertainment Weekly has released the first stills from the movie. You can check it out here below.

A Scanner Darkly Blu-ray DVDA Scanner Darkly
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Richard Linklater
Starring Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Winona Ryder, Woody Harrelson, Rory Cochrane
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Release date: September 7, 2010

Here is a film meant to be existentially frightening. It shows the power of drugs and the frailty of the human spirit, two main contributions that can put the human soul at an extreme vulnerability. Director Richard Linklater never diverts its attention to concentrate on anything else. Only when we realize the descent the characters in A Scanner Darkly have to go through do we get disturbed. Like most great science-fiction films, one succeeds the best when it explores the unexplored depths of the human mind.

The film’s unusual look lures us into its web of disheartening themes. Like his previous film that dealt with extensively analyzing of dreams, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly adopts that film’s visual flair by using an unorthodox way of mixing animation with reality. The actors, décor, and environment inhabit their true form, but the difference is the way they are presented; in animation. It is a laborious process to achieve this but the tone the film carries throughout the movie because of this animation is something completely fascinating and odd.

A group of actors have been assembled to voice roles in Tim Burton‘s feature adaptation of his own short film, Frankenweenie.

And as for the names joining the film, they’re all familiar with the ways of Burton.
