Sam Raimi’s ‘World Of Warcraft’ To Be Written By ‘Saving Private Ryan’ Scribe

WoW

Back in July, it was announced that Sam Raimi would be directing the long-rumored movie adaptation of MMO powerhouse, World of Warcraft. This along with Spider-Man 4 presented two gigantic and time-consuming projects for the Evil Dead and Drag Me To Hell director, and it is still uncertain which will be coming first.

It was first assumed that the WoW movie would be based on a spinoff novel that was written within the game’s world called Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, but it is now confirmed via an interview with MTV that the movie will be an original story set in the world and involving its characters. It was also confirmed that the movie is being written by Saving Private Ryan scripter Robert Rodat and that it will likely be simply titled Warcraft.

Turning a game like Warcraft into a movie is probably about as difficult as it could be to turn a game into a movie. Being an MMO, there is a story, but the game is never-ending and the story isn’t the selling point, so you have to pick and choose what you want to use and construct a story out of these countless elements, settings, and characters. The challenge becomes even greater knowing the track record of video game based movies, as we all are well-aware of, so the mountain for Raimi is large.

Sam Raimi To Direct The ‘World Of Warcraft’ Movie?

WoW

Harry over at Ain’t It Cool News has himself a scoop of epic proportions: Sam Raimi will direct the feature film adaptation of the virtual cult online multiplayer phenomenon that is World of Warcraft. Mr. Knowles not only sounds confident in this huge news, he sounds downright positive, and expects the trades to announce it within a week or so.

We haven’t learned or even heard anything about the proposed World of Warcraft movie in quite a while; not since the Uwe Boll incident (Read: ‘World of Warcraft’ Is Safe From Uwe Boll). The movie project has been lingering around for a bit now, but with no real movement. Obviously the movie will be a little different than the game, which doesn’t rely on story so much as individual people building up their own character and attributes. Because of this, even those who do not play the game, like myself, can look forward to this with excitement because when you take away the WoW title, you have yourself a massive fantasy movie directed by Sam Raimi, which is good things!

World of Warcraft Patch 3.1.0 UlduarSo, as always, the face of World of Warcraft is ever changing. With this most recent patch we see some interesting ideas being implemented, some new areas opening up and as always, huge changes to every class within at least one talent specialization.

I’m not going over the changes to classes or professions or any of that (even though I would like to know which was the profession that got a 32 slot herb bags and how you obtain the right to make them)–You can find all those things on Wowhead, including up-to-date talent calculators. Instead, what I am going to go over is some of the Epicness of Ulduar, who exactly is Yogg-Saron is and why you should care & probably some other stuff as well.

First off, did anyone else see the sweet video that Blizzard posted on patch day? A lot of interesting things happen, including a brief clash. Yogg-Saron, the old God of death gets mentioned, and as luck would have it, he is a boss in Ulduar. It turns out the Titans forced all the old Gods underground and imprisoned them there, because killing them would have killed Azeroth. It is believed, due to what is said in the video, that Yogg is the source of corruption you see across much of Northrend, and is pretty much controlling everything you will face in Ulduar. Suffice to say he is as much an antagonist as Arthus or the Lich King in WoW:WotLK. Yogg’s voice can now even be heard whispering things to player who venture into the Ymirheim Saronite Mines and Whisper Gulch.

Geeks of Doom WoW Guild: For The Horde! Tarsonus on his new War Bear

Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere in Ashenvale for the past 3 months chances are you’ve been noticing how big Wraith of the Lich King has been for World of Warcraft. With a retooling of the game in the near future and the addition of achievements, new raids to come and what seems to be a never ending stream of pwnage, its no wonder so many old fans and noobs alike are picking this game out and drawing battle lines for the never ending struggle between the Alliance and the Horde.

Well Lok’ Tar! My friends, because two members of the Geeks of Doom Warcraft Guild (lovingly referred to as GoDs), along with some very cool Horde players, took one home for the Horde with the slayings of all four main leaders of the so called ‘Alliance’! So first and foremost, congrats to Doomhammre and Tarsonus (yeah, me) on their Epic Black Bear Mounts. Just remember, Mr. Wolfcastle from Simpson’s said it best. “Zee goggles. Dey do Nothing!!”.

Now to inform on how we did our mass slaying all in one night. First we stormed the boat in Darkshore to gain our way to Exodar, home to the otherworldly Draenei. We charged in with lightning speed as we weaved our way past guards and right onto the pedestal where Prophet Velen stood. It was a short fight this one, as the alliance have all but forsaken Exodar and Darnassius. After we gave him the final farewell, it was back out, and on the boat to the home of the Night elves. The next on our ‘Death List Four’ was High priestess Tyrande Whisperwind. She too was a piece of cake.

Deal: ‘World of Warcraft Battlechest’

Empress Eve   |  @   |
space

Today’s 15 Days 15 Deals Video Game Sale item of the day over at Amazon is the World of Warcraft Battlechest for $25.98 (down from $39.99).

  • Includes both the World of Warcraft base sku and the Burning Crusade expansion pack
  • Official Battle Chest strategy guides: one for Burning Crusade and one for World of Warcraft
  • Game manuals
  • WOW guest pass (14-day trial)
  • Blizzard catalog included

That’s a major deal considering that the World Of Warcraft Expansion: Burning Crusade alone is $21.99 (on sale from $29.99); World of Warcraft alone is $22.89; the World of Warcraft Master Guide is $16.49 (on sale from $24.99), and the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Official Strategy Guide is $14.99. If you include the free 14-day trial pass — 60-day pass is $29.99, so my crude math estimates the 14 days would be about $14 — that brings this up to over $80 worth of stuff for $26!

Speaking of the game pass, if you’re getting this as a gift for someone, you can get them a World of Warcraft 60 Day Pre-Paid Time Card for $29.99 to get them going.

Coping with RL through MMORPG: My Life as a Cow Person, Part II

Tarsonus on the plains of Nagrand

This is going to be the second installment of the true-life accounts of a cow person, just trying to make it in the world, and his IRL alter ego’s battle through depression and life changes. (To catch up, here’s Part I.)

Right before I left that morning, I said goodbye to all my guildies, unsure of what to expect when I reached the hospital. Tarsonus was relaxing, ready for sleep after a long night of leveling out in the Blasted Lands. I wandered to an inn, to be sure I could level with ease once I returned home later. As I logged out, I knew today was going to be one of the hardest of my life.

August 4th, 2008 is a day in my life I will never forget. It was blistering hot, the sun was bearing down on everyone outside that day. Everywhere I looked it seemed like such a peaceful day. Everyone buzzed about their business, my friends and I made jokes, I chain smoked cigarette after cigarette. Everything seemed normal, except that we were outside of the hospital and my mother was upstairs, hooked up to machines to make her breathe, slowly slipping away from me and everyone else who loved her. I felt horrible at the time for thinking, but I didn’t want to be there. I didn’t want to be anywhere. Even Azeroth had lost its shine and shimmer for me at this time. Dalvengyr (my server) was no longer my sanctuary from the outside world, simply another reminder that time eventually passed and things changed. Outside, my friends chattered on and I am sure I did too, though I couldn’t tell you the conversation. I hated everything and everyone for feeling normal. For being able to smile without a false sense of hope.

Conversations with GoD: World of Warcraft’s Death Knight Gnome Speaks

Tom Cheredar   |

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Gnome Death KnightThe time has come for 11 million World of Warcraft subscribers to bid farewell to their significant others, social lives, and good decent hygiene as they embark on a voyage through icy Northrend in the Wrath of the Lich King game expansion. And then, provided they fulfill all the requirements, these players will immediately create at least two Death Knight characters.

Why two Death Knights? Because one will be a serious ‘toon’ you’ll actually strive to play for, while the other will be a mighty Gnome — yes that’s correct, you can now create an ultra powerful tank-like Emo-looking Hero Gnome with hot pink hair. You will name this character something laughable and ridiculous like “Pedognome” or “Dethsneeze” because it’s novel to have an overpowered little person.

For Dino Andrade [“Dinoandrade”], the only thing novel about a Death Knight Gnome is the voice he lent to breath vibrant life into the vertically challenged new Hero Class.
