All-New X-Factor Banner

I was sad when the previous run of Peter David‘s X-Factor ended last month after a solid 8-year run, but I am happy now that Marvel has announced that they will be bringing the series back in 2014 under the new name of All-New X-Factor, and that David will return as the writer of the series. Joining him on art will be Carmine Di Giandomenico.

The new series will jump off of events set up at the end of the last run, with Polaris working with Serval Industries to lead a corporate-funded superhero team. Joining her will be Polaris’s half-brother and former X-Factor member Quicksilver, as well as Gambit, coming off his own recently canceled series. We’ll also see some other members on the team, although those haven’t been announced yet.

You guys may not care about this, but hockey is back this week, and that has me excited. Almost as excited as the comics coming out this week. Okay, I’m probably more excited for hockey, but comics are a very close second. Anyway, it’s another great week with some pulp action, a milestone issue, and hey look at that, another new Wolverine series if you’re interested. All that, plus a collection from one of my favorite creators means I will have plenty to read while kicking back this weekend and watching the sport of Canadian kings. So, order some poutine, stop by a Tim Horton’s, and relax as we spend two minutes in the box with The GoD List!

Each and every week “The Undisputed Champion” MK2Fac3 and “The People’s Champ” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I’m going to just skip the BS and tell you that a lot of great comics are coming out this week, folks. We’ve got all sorts of great single issues and collected editions that are coming out of the woodwork to get you all twisted into a much more awesome and better-looking version that you were before. I don’t know how that’s possible, but I’m pretty sure that it’s what’s going to happen. Anyway, like I said, there are so many good books this week. We’ve got some awesome stuff coming in Dark Horse Presents, hopefully a good starting point for Animal Man, the second part of Superman’s origin in Action Comics, the newest issue of “The Best Comic In The World” Locke and Key, the second issue in what could be the best new comic of the year in Fatale, another strong candidate for comic of the year with Winter Soldier, and even more in single issues, you guys. That’s not even touching the collected editions, but we’ll get to that later. Some of the comics mentioned above will be chosen, but which ones are as yet undetermined, so read forth young geeklings to find what books that we have picked out for you… within The GoD List.

Each and every week “I’m on a Boat” MK2Fac3 and “Like a Boss” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Ahoy, there mateys. Are you ready, kids? I can’t hear you. Okay, now I can here you. This week, Captain MK2Fac3 is too busy skippering the USS Rough Service, but he sent me a message in a bottle with his picks for the week. Meanwhile, I’m stuck on a deserted island, and I have figured out why the Professor had such a problem fixing the boat when the only materials at hand were coconuts, palm fronds, and a collection of hicks, bimbos, non-functional alcoholics, and a crew that got their license from the Nebraska School of Oceanography. I was going to send this week’s list in by Aldis lamp, but it turns out blinking lights do not translate well to the internet and my lawyers told me there was a risk of seizures, so I strapped myself to a couple of sea turtles and found my way back to the mainland. Anyway, enough talk of that cruel mistress of the sea; let’s get to the books.

ISSUES

Deadpoolmax #7 (of 12) (Marvel/Max – $3.99) If you had told me a year ago that a Deadpool book would be one of my favorite titles, I would have said you were crazy, but David Lapham and Kyle Baker’s Deadpoolmax has made me a believer. Everything that readers love about Deadpool is here, it’s just cranked up. Add to it Baker’s unique art style, and you get a crazy, entertaining book that I can’t get enough of.

X-Factor #218 (Marvel – $2.99) I was talking to someone at last year’s New York Comic-Con, and they said they were looking for a socially relevant comic and didn’t know if there was one, and the first book I told them about was X-Factor. Writer Peter David uses each issue to tackle a wide variety of modern subjects, while still telling fun adventure stories with a cast of characters I have come to love. If I had a complaint about the book it is that it can’t hold onto a regular artist to save its life, but the series has maintained such a high story quality that I forgive it.

Geeks of Doom's Exclusive Coverage of SDCC 2009

Fans of Marvel’s X-Men line have a lot to be excited about after the panel held Friday at San Diego Comic-Con. The big announcement of the panel was an image showing Magento’s return in a storyline titled “Nation X.” The story begins in September, and will run in the pages of Uncanny X-Men. Writer Matt Fraction said that this storyline will be used to make the X-Men a more cohesive line, and that the story has been building up since at least issue #500. The other big news is an upcoming crossover between X-Force, New Mutants, and X-Men Legacy, which will be titled Necrosha and will deal with Selene bringing back a number of dead mutants and attacking the teams.

Other pieces of news from the panel include:

There will be an unexpected ending to the Dark Avengers/X-Men: Utopia miniseries.

Issue 50 of X-Factor will bring the current year long story to a close. Writer Peter David also said that readers should expect the current romance between Madrox and Layla Miller will cool off, and says that he always wants the characters the take two steps back for every one step forward when it comes to relationships. He also said that readers would see some big developments with Strong Guy, and also that he would get into Shatterstar’s parents, especially with Longshot being on the team. There was also a comment made that seemed to say that Rahne may be back in the pages of X-Factor.
