Han Solo header image

In the weeks leading up to the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we will probably hear a lot more about the other spinoffs that take place within the same universe. While Disney and Lucasfilm had planned on alternating between the saga films and spinoffs every year, the only other spinoff what we know about is that of the untitled Han Solo film that is set to begin production early next year.

The film will focus on a younger Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) in the years before we first met them in the original Star Wars trilogy. While there isn’t a definitive plot synopsis, producer Kathleen Kennedy dropped a few hints that tell us more about the film’s tone. According to her, the spinoff will have a heist or western type feel to it. More on the story below.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Han Solo and Chewie

After an exhaustive search to find the right actor to play Han Solo in the currently untitled standalone film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller finally chose Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich.

It was quite an expensive search, at least that’s how the directors have put it, and now their attention has turned to finding an actress to play the female lead. Though the film is still far from shooting, the two are in the early pre-production stages of getting ready for the 2018 release and we now have an idea of who that female lead may be. Check out the full story below.

In Dope, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is a teenager trying to survive in Inglewood while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him on an adventure, that could allow him to go from being a geek to becoming “dope.”

Written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood), Dope was a critically acclaimed audience favorite at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It’s a smart, ambitious comedy-drama that’s equal parts Go, Superbad, and Kid and Play’s House Party, with a touch of John Hughes.

Release Date: May 15, 2015

“Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!”

Mad Max: Fury Road is nothing short of a goddamn masterpiece. This is an epic of grease, gunpowder, and gasoline – a feminist, post-apocalyptic Western on wheels, all shiny and chrome. This is action cinema in its purest, most exhilarating form.

Co-written and directed by George Miller, Fury Road finds The Road Warrior himself, Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), pursued by Warboys, a bloodthirsty clan of marauders under the command of the tyrannical Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). The leather-clad maniacs capture Max and haul him off to the Citadel, a massive stronghold where the warlord rules over the poor, sickly wretches of the wasteland.

Within the Citadel, Max becomes a blood bag for Nux (Nicholas Hoult), a wounded Warboy. Max hangs upside down, his blood draining into Nux, who wants nothing more than to die a glorious soldier’s death and be ushered into shiny, chrome-colored Valhalla.

Mad Max: Fury Road Banner Image

A brand new trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic epic Mad Max: Fury Road has been released by Warner Brothers. This latest preview of the fourth movie in the series by director George Miller, which also includes Mad Max, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, all starring Mel Gibson, is dubbed a “Legacy Trailer” and looks back at the past movies from 36, 33, and 30 years ago.

We’ve seen plenty of trailers for the movie that have overwhelmed us with excitement, but to see these clips of the decades-old movies before getting another peek at Fury Road only adds another layer of excitement as the blues and blacks and other colors popping amongst the predominantly dusty brownish-orange hue of the newest installment really get those sensory receptors firing off nicely.

Dope Movie Image

Rick Famuyiwa‘s Dope was one of the best films to come out of the Sundance Film Festival this year. Critics raved over how the energetic film infused classic hip-hop beats and ’90s geek nostalgia, and how it had a John Hughes-feel to it. Open Road obtained the rights in just a matter of days after the film’s debut at the festival, and scheduled it for a summer release.

Starring Shameik Moore (Incredible Crew, The Watsons Go to Birmingham) Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), and Kiersey Clemons (Eye Candy, Shake It Up), Dope centers on a group of high school kids from Inglewood, CA, who must find a way to recoup money from a drug deal gone wrong or get killed.

Now a teaser trailer for the movie has appeared online, and it gives us a first look at the style, energy, music, and nostalgia you will experience while watching the film. Hit the jump to check it out.
